So stand in line while they ink numbers in your head,

Pull the trigger.

You should have known the price of evil,
and it hurts to know that you belong here.

It's your fuckin' nightmare.

Newly arrived to New York City, Emily is a power-hungry young woman obsessed with the use of her ability to further her own twisted goals. Raised in a family where abilities are a way of life, she's merely doing what she imagines is the next step: instead of personal glory and a positive change in the world like her parents, she wants little more than raw, unlimited personal power and notoriety through installation of a survival of the fittest natural order to humankind. She's the sort that feels her ability is best used in the interests of one person: Emily.

History

Unassuming Beginnings

On August 25, 1987, Emily was born at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Ernie and Elaine Caulfield. She is the youngest of 5, with older brothers Eric (30) and Jason (24), and older sisters Lori (26) and Robin (28). It was easy for her parents to add a fifth to their brood; money was no problem, and in most circles, the larger family was encouraged. Her childhood was about as normal as could be, raised by a nanny and maid in posh California with too much money and too little adult supervision. For Emily, friends were child stars and celebrity babies. Trips to school were in the back of a private car with driver, but that didn't make her different from a lot of the kids attending one of the country's most prestigious private schools.

Money was provided by her mother, a nationally renowned oncologist, and her father, a district DA. Even though she didn't live down her wealth and family influence, she didn't play it up either, at least not until she decided she wanted to get into Stanford University to continue her education in biology and psychology. Then she used every ounce of her family's power and wealth to make sure she was accepted. At age 18, her college career started, along with the rest of her story.

The College Years

One of the key things taught in biology at Stanford, or at least pondered, is where the evolution of humans proceeds from the current state. Can humans be more than what they are now? Is 'human' all there is? If so, what's the next stage of humanity? Despite modest grades and a flourishing social life, Emily managed to find a home in the biology class of Dr. Alfred Greenworth, a scientist through and through (and childhood comic geek) not willing to give up the idea that there may in fact be people with powers in this world.

At age 19, while at home preparing for a trip during spring break, her parents confirmed that indeed, there was more than just 'human' in the world. They asked if strange things had ever happened to her. They asked if she ever felt like she was different from other kids. It was then that she learned her parents were different as well; her mother revealed her power as a healer by fixing a scar on her knee, and her father revealed his power as a telepath by convincing his daughter she was a chicken without saying a word. It was immediately after that, learning the secrets of her parents' success, that Emily made a decision that would soon change her life.

Birth of a God

The realization that the wealth and prestige that her parents had accumulated over a lifetime of work was the result of Evolved abilities and knowing that she herself possesses abilities was stunning. If her parents were able to get that far using their abilities, if they were able to achieve the level of success with what they had, what's the limit? How far can one take this? What is her role in the world as a person with Evolved abilities? What biological imperative is she, as an Evolved individual, supposed to fill?

The lessons of evolution learned in college instilled in Emily the very simple, logical idea that the most well-equipped creatures live and thrive, and the most poorly-equipped creatures die. The discussions of Evolved individuals being the next logical evolutionary step from normal humans has convinced Emily that, in a survival of the fittest scenario, Evolved individuals are simply better equipped…simply better. To that end, Emily works to ensure her name and notoriety in the world by merely installing the proper social order. Put simply, Emily is a living god, and it is her self-given duty to create a world where Evolved individuals assume their biological superiority over normal humans with herself as the first and greatest of those with abilities.

Master of puppets; I'm pulling your strings. Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams.

Fortunately for Emily, people are stupid. Nobody takes the time to learn the habits of casual acquaintances carefully enough to be able to tell when they aren't themselves. Nobody takes the time even then to make sure they're talking to who they think they are. This is what allows her to be so devious with her plans…plans to ensure that she'll always have what she needs; that nobody will get in her way. People are so easily convinced by loved ones, bosses, teachers, and more; these are the people that Emily manipulates like a puppet master.
