Ever since Ramon's wife died, he has been struggling to support his four kids alone. Recently, his family's fortunes have taken a turn for the better at his appointment as Chairman of Evolution Software's Board of Directors.

History

Born and raised in New York city to a large family of Mexican immigrants, Ramon grew up knowing the value of family. His mother, his father, two aunts and three uncles and a host of cousins, brothers, and sisters all crammed into their apartment, which wasn't big enough, with each person working something to support the family. His father took low paying construction jobs, his mother took low paying waitressing jobs, his uncles took whatever they could get, and so forth. The kids were expected to help out with chores or cooking or babysitting or even jobs of their own when they were old enough. Ramon was the oldest of this brood of children and took to his responsibilities with a vengeance.

He also always knew he wanted to do better than his parents had done, and he took advantage of every opportunity. He worked hard at school and eventually got a scholarship at New York State. He studied computers, knowing the field would open up many opportunities. As other kids of the family grew up and took on better jobs and more responsibilities, the family started drifting into more spacious dwelling, fragmenting into something closer to comfortable housing and smaller family units. But they always keep in touch and are prepared to help each other out whenever possible. But they always keep in touch and are prepared to help each other out whenever possible.

He met his wife Catalina shortly after college. He ended up working a tech support help desk. She was a bartender at his favorite after work spot. They dated for about three years before they settled down to have a family. She finished up school herself and became a teacher, and together they raised a family of four children. They were a happy family, a strong family, even with one of Ramon's younger brothers constantly coming around for money to fuel his latest get rich scheme. While most of the family embraced responsibility, this brother (left unnamed to allow PCs to play, as are the children) is constantly searching for the quick, easy out. Tragedy struck the family about four years ago. Catalina Gomez died. The Medical Examiner ruled it a suicide, but nobody in the Gomez family believed that.

Granted, Ramon had the day to day challenges on his plate. He had got his brother coming around. He had 4 children crammed into a small 3 bedroom apartment in Queens, which is all they could afford on his single $40,000 a year salary. He worked for RTS, which is a small company which provides technical support services to companies which want to outsource them. For companies who do not maintain their own IT staff, RTS goes in and handles the duties IT would provide. On the days when he was scheduled to work he carried a cellphone and a pager and could be summoned any time day or night — a situation which put particular strains on the family. He drove the company van out to the site and he took care of the problem or the work order, and then he drives to the next job or home to wait for the next call. He was paid a sort of commission by the job. The bills were piling up and some of his children were having problems. He had to juggle school commitments and doctors appointments and simple tasks like cleaning. While some of his children had the same values of family and responsibility, others hadn't managed to take it so far. Ramon usually felt like his life was in an exhausting state of controlled chaos. It didn't help that as a father he's overprotective to a degree which does not keep him healthy and at ease.

The quest to bring down his wife's killers brought huge changes to his life. He learned that his children had been the result of experiments with a dark purpose that may well haunt them now. He fell in love with Desiree Russo, and finally let go of his first wife's death enough to embrace her. He ended up asking Jaden Cain for a job, expecting to be set to work tinkering with computers at a slightly higher salary—and in a whirlwind of motion ended up Chairman of the Board in the EvoSoft-Lancaster merger, with a new house, a shiny new car, and enough money to pay off his creditors for the first time in his life. He moved Desiree and her children into the house with himself and his children, even as Elena declared her independence and stated she wanted to stay in the city. The adjustment has been a positive one, though overshadowed completely by his own remorse at having killed John Carter. Killing another human being, even when it is necessary and perhaps even right, never leaves one unmarked.

Quotes

"I did not need to know that you like to have a giant cartoon dog nuzzling up to your personal spaces. I really didn't need to know that."

"Great, chiquita. I can't wait to vanquish the level twelve orcas."

*Feel what we've felt. Feel it. Really feel it, Carter. Feel it to your toes, and know that you caused it. You may never forget, as long as you live, and every illusion you've put up to think that this is right and okay? It goes. You're done with them. Feel this. Know it. It's your new reality. We're tired of it. You carry it. YOU MADE THIS. YOU DID THIS. HURT LIKE WE'VE HURT. Scream like I screamed when I found her dead. And don't ever stop. Feel it as fresh and as new and as raw as the day it hit each of us.*

"You sure? You sure there's no lawsuits in your inbox?"

"It may be a long shot, but…It's my responsibility."
