Back Home Again

Private Hospital

The private facility where the burn victims from the attack were taken has a wing entirely just for the burn victims. Especially susceptible to disease and infection, each patient has screens around their beds in an attempt to keep viruses and the like diverted. Really, they should each have their own rooms, but the smaller facility had to convert a wing just for these patients. Megan's bed is hidden behind one of those flimsy curtains which has been pulled to hide her from view. This particular patient has been very easy to tend to. Ever since being transferred she's been in a coma-like state. Easy breathing, unmoving. Most of her body is wrapped in careful bandages.

When Bekah was brought into the Company facility, she was made comfortable, given a good meal, but otherwise instructed that she was, at this time, not allowed to leave her room for security reasons. Nt exactly what Mariska had promised, but the upside is that she wasn't put into a cell. Meryl stopped by in the morning to bring her a care package with colouring books and stories and the like, as she does with most, when she can. Going on into evening, she came by again to take Bekah to the hospital. It too painstakingly long to get clearance; thankfully, the worst-burned are still alive.

Of course, she heads for one particular room first. She knows many people who were hurt, but she was working with Niel at the time, plus, Megan is her friend. The choice was easy, especially when you allow yourself to be biased as Meryl has. Entering the room, she makes an effort not to look at Megan. It bothers her, and she's sure it bothers the Scot in her head, too. "She's over here," Meryl says, glancing toward the bed.

—-

"Oh? You mean you actually had people for me to heal? Instead of sitting in a room deciding with of the 64 colors I wanted to use next on the little kitty picture?" Bekah asks with a tone dripping with sarcasm. Someone was oh so happy to have been shut into a room for 24 hours or so. Yep. She moves towards Megan's bed though looking down at the woman. She's looking over the extent of the injuries with more curiousity than horror.

—-

In the bed next to Megan is Niel, laid out on his belly with second- and third-degree burns over his shoulders and back. He's not as bad off as Megan, but he's close. The man is still sleeping from Benjamin's mercifully induced nap, but he's starting to come out of it. One hand is still on the dosage button, the other dangles off the bed slightly. And he snores. SNnnnnnnkkzzzz.

—-

The Megan inside of Meryl's head has been just been just taking a backseat for the most part. What with Bekah already in hand, the Scot is a little anxious to go back into the room with her own body. What if she can't be fixed or healed? What if she's going to be stuck as a burned out shell of a body for the rest of her life? Maybe Meryl wouldn't mind if she took out a timeshare with her body. They could share or something. That wouldn't be so bad, would it? The worry and horror of seeing the damage of her own body seeps through. She's unable to stop it. And if she can, she's going to close Meryl's eyes. Because, really, she'd rather just not see what has happened to her until it's better.

—-

"Well, it's like putting a fish into a new tank. You have to get them accustomed to the water first, then hope that when you open the bag and dump them into the water, the bigger fish you already have in there aren't hungry. I did that once. Poor Basil." Taking a moment to remember the fish fondly, Meryl places her hand on the foot of the bed, finally looking up at Megan's heavily burned form. A moment later, her eyes close, and the agent doesn't fight Megan's wishes. Instead, she turns and looks away. "Bekah, if you can do anything for her…" Turning her attention to Niel, Meryl actually smiles a bit. Not as bad, no. But don't worry, buddy, you're next.

—-

Bekah looks over to Meryl. "Well, I'm really hoping not to be eaten. That sounds rather painful." Bekah states before she moves up to the side of Megan's body. She's looking for a less burned place to rest her hand. She closes her eyes as she touches the woman's body. She stands still as she works to heal the body. It's not an instantaneous process, the over time the burns just seem to be fading from the body with new pink skin coming in their place.

—-

The snoring stops and Niel slowly opens his eyes. Buh? There's talking and people and stuff, but they're not nurses. The one voice is Meryl's, the other isn't so recognizable. He can't see them beyond the protective screen, just silhouettes — and then the pain starts seeping back into his consciousness and he groans, reflexively smashing the dosage button with almost obsessive fervor. He hates drugs, but any man would crumble under this.

—-

"Don't worry," Meryl answers with a smile. Unable to help it, she turns to look over her shoulder as the woman works on healing Megan, absolutely mesmerised and fascinated when the burns start to vanish before her eyes. It's way beyond being easily distracted… Who wouldn't be amazed by this gift? The power to heal with a simple touch? If Meryl had an ability, she would want this to be it. It's hard to find anything more beautiful.

Ahem. Aside from the impromptu poetry, Meryl notes the sound coming from Niel's bed. She thinks about heading over while the healing is taking place, and gets about three steps before she has to turn around again. "Check that out," she says outloud to Megan, in case the woman in her mind is still trying to avoid looking. "That's amazing, Doc. Hey— Hey, Niel, I found a healer. Don't pump too much of that morphine into your blood." Pause. "Or do, if that's your thing. You'll start seeing green rabbits, though. That's what happened to me, and they never go away."

—-

Meryl's right, she's trying not to notice what Bekah is doing. It's not that she doesn't appreciate or find the fact that Bekah is just touching her body and it's healing…she just doesn't want to look in the mirror and the only thing she remembers is the burns that she used to have. There's enough worry going on in there to not have to add anything else. When Meryl stares, Megan tries to unfocus her own gaze of watching. It might just give her friend a bit of double vision or a slight headache with the two different pictures warring in her head. Just…tell her when it's over. "I…yeah. I don't want to," she says softly in that Australian accent she's strangely getting used to hearing come out as her own, hopefully not enough to carry too far.

—-

Bekah finishes up, opening her eyes as she takes a deep breath. Megan looks good as new, but Bekah is noticably paler. Maybe there's a reason she's grabbing onto the railing of the hospital bed. "There. One down. Any drugs she's on will just have to work themselves out of her system, but the physical damage is healed."

—-

Quite frankly, Niel isn't really capable of comprehending what Meryl is saying right now. Drugs first, info later. Once he's got sufficient morphine going through his veins, the man semi-relaxes again and rolls his eyes to stare at whatever of Meryl he can see. The glazed look is coming back. He might even start drooling. Healer? What? She actually got one?

—-

"Sorry, it's…" Meryl rubs her eyes. Megan? Is getting a whole lot better at this, and while she should be annoyed… She's not. The better control she has over her power, the safer she'll stay when they head overseas. Still no permission on that, but Meryl's hoping.

The drawback to extensive healing becomes apparent; Meryl hurries to support Bekah, guiding her toward one of those squishy hospital chairs if she's allowed. "Thank you," she says as she heads to the sink to fill a paper cup with water. It's not much, so Meryl does the most logical thing she can think of - she brings three. All of these are held out helpfully to Bekah, and the agent is totally beaming. Doesn't take much to make Meryl happy, but on her list of awesome, fixing up a friend is quite high.

It's probably okay to assume that Megan can go back whenever she wants now. Meryl crouches down in front of the doctor, though, taking a hand. "I'd like you to be able to do one more today, but take a rest. Are you all right?"

—-

Finally, Megan allows her part of the image to refocus. Look. There she is. Totally healed. She's a little flabbergasted at the whole thing. It's about time to get back to her own body, now, too. Strangely enough, it's something she's anxious about. She's been with Meryl for a few days - the longest she's ever possessed someone. What if she can't get back? What if she's stuck here? Scared, though, she takes a deep breath and thinks as hard as she can. Blinking, when she opens her eyes again, it's a totally different feeling. She's back in her own body. Suddenly blissed out on pain killers she didn't need. "Merralfff." She's trying to tell Meryl that she's in her own body again. But the very fact that her head lolls a bit to the side and she tries to speak is going to have to be enough for her.

—-

Bekah lets Meryl steer her to the chair and collapses back in it. "I'm fine. Healing just wears me out. Give me a minute and I can certainly heal one more." See? This is what she does when Sam isn't there to tell her NO. She reaches out for one glass of water before she asks. "You don't happen to have coffee, do you? Or soda with caffiene?" Because there's a reason she's a caffiene addict.

—-

Niel's eyes roll upward again and his eyelids start to droop. So tired. Morphine is such a beautiful and yet horrible, horrible thing. He can barely make out Megan's voice in the haze. She's awake?

—-

"Well, not in my pocket. Not today. I do have these, though." Yes, Meryl has been known to keep Caffeine in her pocket in the form of bottled cola or even coffee grounds - FOR EMERGENCIES. Today, though, she pulls a jumbo pack of M&Ms from the pocket of her cargo pants. No peanuts! Lots of chocolate, though, and chocolate has caffeine. Meryl will surrender them for the greater good.

When Megan tries to speak, though, Meryl is suddenly standing again. She hadn't even felt anything when Megan left! Which… Is pretty much normal, from what she remembers. Even so… Unexpected. Alas for the poor drugged-up girl - Meryl takes a step toward the bed, lifts Megan into a sitting position, and gives the girl a powerful squeeze-hug. "Welcome back, mate!" she says cheerfully.

—-

"Mmfrrpphhhaaaa," is Megan's response. But it's back with a bit of a Scottish burr. That is, if drugged up nonsense speech can have an accent. Who knows what she was trying to say. The Scot isn't even sure of what she was trying to accomplish any more. The drugs will slowly work their way out of her system but until they do, she's stuck being blissed out and unable to form coherent sentences. Slowly, she starts to drift asleep, almost against her own will.

—-

Bekah takes the M&Ms with a quick word of thanks. She munchs on a bit of the chocolate. Yay for sugar. Then she stands, moving to the edge of Niel's bed. She sets the chocolate down to reach out for the man, bracing herself on the edge with the other hand. "She's likely to be out of it for awhile. Drugs and all. You move her around too much, you might get puked on." Bekah states towards Meryl before she reaches out to rest a hand on Niel's arm in a less burned spot. Her eyes close again as she works to heal him, the burns slowly starting to fade away as they did on Megan.

—-

Damn, if only Niel hadn't woken up in pain a few minutes earlier; he wouldn't be drugged and could enjoy the benefits of Insta-Healing. As it is, he only manages to stare up at Bekah groggily. Hey. He … sorta recognizes her. She works at Mount Sinai. His eyes roll down to the hand on his arm. "You haf nice hands," he slurs.

—-

Oh, drugged or not, she's so happy Megan's okay! The fact that she can now go off on that mission doesn't cross her mind just yet. It's just… Meryl knows what it's like to have scars, and Megan's too sweet for that, or something. And, yeah, she gives the poor girl a couple good rocks back and forth, which probably isn't too good when she's loaded up on Morphine. Then again? Meryl is not a good listener sometimes.

"Yeah, I think they have you on that constant drip, prob'ly 'cuz they expected you to wake up all hurty, and you're not, but… Well, I suppose that'll wear off in a day or so. Can you feel your toes? Can you see the rabbits? They're green, I dunno why. Kind of small, like mouse-rabbits, circling around your head - hey, are you falling asleep?"

—-

Green rabbits? Small? Circling? Megan's not sure. Who knows what is going on inside or out of her head at the moment. She'll just nod. Nodding and smiling never gets anyone in trouble, does it? Right? Right. Her head lolls to the side and soon she's all but asleep.

—-

The burns on Niel's back and shoulders continue to heal up until there's the red of a light burn across the flesh. Then it seems to stop. The reason why can be seen a moment later as Bekah sinks bonelessly to the floor. She's out like a light, but hey, at least she's still breathing. See, this is why she has a Jewish Momma for a best friend.

—-

And down Niel peers at the fallen healer. He blinks. Then blinks again. "Oops sssshe felldown." Pause. "Night-night!" Little bit high.

—-

Ah, Megan's sleepy. That makes sense! But it doesn't stop Meryl from continuing to talk to her, even after she's asleep. Eventually, the agent will lower Megan back down to her pillow, after deftly flipping the old one over and managing to fluff it with one hand. TALENT, sirs.

As she turns to see how Niel's doing, Meryl's greeted by the sight of Bekah dropping to the floor. "Oh. Oh god, I've— Killed her, no, she's breathing, good. Jeez, why do all you space aliens pass out when you use your ability too much? That's dumb, you should be like superman or something, you know?" Sigh. Rolling her eyes, Meryl leans down to lift Bekah up in her arms. "Yeah, she needs a bit o' a nap, Niel." There's another wink. "You should get some sleep, yourself. When you wake up, we're gonna have some bad guys to catch."

—-

"Mmmmkay." Niel is really kinda out of it. He smiles cheerfully (if not sleepily), and then his eyelids start to droop as the morphine really starts to kick in. He'll be out soon. And when he wakes up, he'll be much happier.

—-

Bekah is out. She doesn't even stir when Meryl picks her up. It'll be a few hours before her eyes crack open. In the meantime, hopefully Meryl will put her someplace comfortable so she doesn't wake with a horrible crick in her neck.
