"Back in the Loop"

Lucky Joe's Diner, Lower East Side

It's a good thing that Matt built some slack time into his brief visit to New York; he not only picked up a few of his things, but a message from Cass as well. The resulting visit was more complicated than he expected, but worthwhile nonetheless. Now he just needs to meet up with Charlotte again so he can get back. He's sitting near the entrance, waving away the waitress as she stops by to check on him: no thanks, don't need a table yet, waiting on someone.

"So maybe karaeoke isn't my strong suite," Charlotte admits with a blush as she pushes the door open, allowing Kory to step in with her. She knows this is where to meet Matt; she knows she's a little late. But they've been out! Doing girl things! Charlotte is all wrapped up in a big old coat with gloves and a scarf. She ahtes the cold. Her hair is pulled up in an easy twist, and she wears large earrings adorned with palm trees. "At the very least, I've learned my lesson."

Kory is likewise bundled against the chill of New York November. "You weren't all that bad, really, Charlotte," Kory offers consolingly. Kory, having DJ experience in her recent past, was at least presentable when she could be coaxed to sing. "A little practice and you'll have them clamoring for you to sing next time."

Ah, there she is. Matt rises to his feet, motioning to the waitress now. "Table for tw— er, three, I guess." Is Kory planning to stick around? She very well could, she'd be one of their targets too, though he's been largely out of touch with her in recent months.

"We're getting a table?" Charlotte asks, raising a brow at Matt as she approaches. "Oh, sorry. Matt, this is my friend Kory. Kory this is Matt. We met through his daughter." No saying how she met Kory - rescuing the girl from being kidnapped isn't exactly table-talk. "I could eat. I always loved the hash browns they had here. With cheese - mmm!" She giggles, dimpled, excited at the prospects of such fattening food!

Kory is aware of what's been going on. Which is why she hasn't done a whole lot of public appearing lately. Charlotte, however, is difficult to say no to, mainly because she's frighteningly persistent. The former comic girl is skittish and quiet, though, as they enter the diner. Her eyes widen at the sight of her old acquaintance…her lips turn up into a fleeting smile. It's been a while but she's still happy to see her old customer, especially given recent events. "Matt and I have met, Charlotte," Kory says quietly. "Been a bit, though. Nice to see you again." She glances askance at Charlotte. "The waffles are better."

"Waffles with cheese? Takes all kinds, I guess." A quick thought is sent Charlotte's way - does she know what we're up to? - as he heads for the table. "Nice to see you again, too. How's the store doing these days? Molly was staying with family out of town for a while…" Which would explain why he hasn't been back lately, he could never really figure manga out himself.

Charlotte is more than happy to give her perky thoughts back to Matt. She's an angel, we can talk about anything to her. And there is a feelning, and unspoken strength behind those words - Charlotte believes them, strongly. She gives Kory a little smile, intending to talk to the girl about…other things, later. "I like chcoolate chip waffles with butter. So I have to stay away from them altogether - way too dangerous to my health." Quite literlaly!

"No, with butter and syrup," Kory says, expression bewildered for the few seconds it takes her to figure out where Matt got the idea. "I …don't work at the store anymore. Haven't for some time. I needed something …a little more substantial." To say nothing of how it was turning into a magnet for people with abilities, and therefore an unwise place to hang out these days. "Send Molly a hello for me." If she suspects telepathic byplay between friend and acquaintance, she doesn't let on. Paranoia makes for a very circumspect visage. "After your karaoke performance, I think a little chocolate would make you feel better," she teases mildly.

Matt nods to Kory. "I'll do that." Mental note: introduce the two some time, let Molly thank her for the past gift-giving advice, even if there's to be no more of it in that field. Then, nodding to Charlotte and keeping his overt attention directed toward the menu: "I stopped by a bookstore earlier," he says quietly, "the owner left me a message while I was away."

"About a book?" Charlotte asks, feeling that the matter must be entirely innocent. At least, she likes to pretend it is. It's her way of hoping that it is. Truley, she's sure she doesn't want anything else complicated coming her way. She just wants to take the boys someplace safe and live happily ever after. Hmm, what a strange thing that would be. "Is it one of those new Twilight books? I heard they're horrible. All about….stalking women and biting and stuff."

"Enlightenment books?" Kory asks, shrewdly. No need to look at the menu. The waffles have already been mentioned as the best dish served here.

Matt shoots Charlotte a sympathetic look. Maybe Molly's a fan? He's not, in any case. "That's the place," he confirms. "Bit of a change of plans… they say it's more important to find Peter first, and that I should stay back so I can check up on him after he's found."

"Peter's fine," Charlotte answers, easily, if not a little bewildered. "Well, that's what the boys say. They say he's fine where he is, that he didn't want to be rescued." She shrugs easily, as if this were no big deal. After the boys' kidnap, it's really not. "I can go and ask him myself though, if it's an issue. I need to talk to him anyway about something…else."

Kory's head snaps around so her eyes can fix on Matt. "Peter. Is Missing. Again." It's phrased as a question, but there's a distinct tone of "that explains much" in her voice and her expression. "Charlotte, if he's on the continent, I might be able to get ahold of him." If anyone had told her. She looks a little miffed to be left out of the loop, but it passes as Charlotte says he's fine and doesn't need rescuing. There will be a conference about it. "Am I …" She moves to rise. "I am. I better…"

Matt shakes his head, pointing briefly to one of his temples. "That's the thing— they're worried that something's not right with him here. Maybe he's gone Stockholm. If he really is fine, then okay, he can stay put. If he isn't—?" He trails off, peering at Kory. She might be able to work it out, too, but… did she say 'anywhere on the continent'? That's seriously impressive, but at the same time, it sure does sound like she'd be stretching herself.
