Care Bear Stare

Monica Dawson's Apartment

Bored. Well, that's one way to put the life of Daniel Lawerence Hawkins. There was more excitement in the prison than there is out of it. But for right now, he's sitting in the living room of his humble abode and maybe even trying to relax. The television is on, but nothing he's paying attention to, that's for sure. He's more interested in peering at the newspaper that's in his hands. He flips the page and rolls his eyes. Nothing but bad news, that's for sure. But then, this is New York. What other kind of news is there?

"Micah? Miss Dawson?" Knock knock knock. There's someone at the door! It's a feminine voice, young, and seems rather comfortable. But there's a pause in her call. "Niki? Niki it's Charlotte…I brought crepes!" Niki likes crepes! At least she used to…Charlotte isn't sure any more, if she will or not. But they had a friendship once. And even if she's not home, she has to find Micah. Knock knock!

Newspaper is folded and dropped to the side, before D.L. gets himself up off his seat and moves down the hall to get to the door. Immediately, he's peeking out of the peekhole to see what the ruckus is about and then there's some unlocking of the door and yanking of it open to see what's up. "Can I help you?" His tone is one that is immediately distrusting and suspicious. Could have something to do with the fact that, well, whoever this girl is, she knows the names of his family members. Which is not good, because he has no idea who she is. Possible Enemy!

Charlotte is all smiles and dimples, a little mused brown hair, and dangly earrings that could be used for fish lures in a pinch. They're shiny. "Oh! I'm sorry, I'm looking for Micah and Niki." She says, holding up a carry-out bag. "I brought crepes…Niki likes them…I think…" Her face falls a bit as she considers. Niki did like them, but she might still like them, so it's not technically a lie. But then something catches her doe-brown gaze: it's D.L. hisself. She knows that face. "Are you….Mister Hawkins?"

Blinking and keeping that eyebrow raised, at the same time, D.L. just continues to peer out of the semi-open door at the girl that's standing there with… crepes. "Yeah." D.L. keeps the answers short and sweet, reaching out to accept the bag of carry-out deliciousness. "Niki ain't here. I'll take 'em." And that's pretty much the end of what he's trying to get done. There's no reason to have random conversations with random people that bring delicious goodies to the house of his wife.

Charlotte seems a little off-put by his taking of the food. "Oh…" her smile faulters a bit. "Well, is Micah here? I kind of wanted to talk to him. I'm a friend of Niki's, I work for Pinehearst. My name's Charlotte." See, she's nice, look at her all nice and such! She's clean cut, not selling drugs or anything. "Niki asked me to check in on you guys."

If D.L.'s eyebrow could raise any higher, it would be at this moment. Sending a scrawny little white girl (no offense) to check on the manliness of D.L. and Micah? Man, Niki. Way to not trust that your husband can take care of the house. "He's doin' his homework. No company." D.L.'s face is about as uninviting as it possibly can be. Not to mention he's not letting the door budge to welcome her in, at all. "I'll tell Niki you stopped by."

Charlotte continues to stand there, not really worried about the fact that he's not very friendly. A little frown adorns her features, but none the less she tries. "Thanks….Mister Hawkins. And Micah too..I wasn't aware you were back. Niki and Micah must be so happy to have you home." She never spoke to Niki about him though since when she knew the girl, she had amnesia. "How…how is Niki? Is she doing alright?" She asks, her frown turning a tint to worry

"She's fine." D.L. is starting to border the line of being rude, because he's not exactly letting go of the angst that fills his mind and soul. His body is never solid long enough for there to be any angst in it. His eyes narrow a bit more as he commits a couple things to memory, like this girl's name and her job at the place that he vaguely remembers. Huh. Interesting. "Just trying to get our family back on its feet. Thank you for stopping by."

Charlotte nods. "I'll bet that's tough, but I think with Micah and Niki you have a good shot at getting things back together. They're some of the smartest people I've met." She assures him, stepping back a little, frowning as he seems done with her. "Well, alright then. Thank you."

And that's something that D.L. worries about every day. Both of them are, well, too good for the likes of the ex-con D.L. This causes a small sigh and he just nods at the girl. "No problem." And that's what he's saying as he's stepping back and pushing at the door to make sure it closes. Hopefully, this girl will take D.L.'s frowny face as the hint to not return! What a sourpuss.
Charlotte will most certainly return. Sourpuss or no, she's a P.R. girl. This is what she does! Yes, D.L. you'll even get another dimpled smile and a wave as she turns to go. Her new pet project. Mwhahahaaa!
