Born from trailer trash and raised by his grandfather, Gene has gone from boy to man, finding his idenity as a changing nation tries to find its own.

But he's still a geek.

History

Gene Kensington did not have a normal life. His mother was killed when she was young and his father was abusive and seemingly cruel. The blessing with the curse of a troubled childhood was that Gene was a genius. His grandfather found that out when he took him in and encouraged the gift. For a time, Gene was able to work as one of the best R&D specialists in the world while seemingly being a lowly (and odd) intern at Lancaster Electronics. When New York became a war zone though, everything changed.

As soon as the ‘official’ war was underway, Gene was called in to assist with the growing conflict of the terrorist Evolved at the government’s request. Like most defense contractors, Gene might be concerned with profit and making a living, but his purpose is to protect the US. So when the demand went out, Gene reports in and is ordered to be taken to a think tank, even as New York becomes a war zone around him. While some around him try to convince him to lay low, he assures them that this is something he needs to do.

However, complications arise when Gene's convoy out of the city is attacked by Evolved. While Gene was able to escape the slaughter of the military by the hands of the Evolved strike with the help of the dedicated soldiers, but Gene's left arm and leg were horribly injured in the assault. In the year that followed, Gene was assumed dead by friends and family alike while he was held in a government complex to not only heal, but assist in R&D development of various weapon systems. His wounds in his right arm made it so it has to be amputated from the shoulder down and Gene's leg was amputated from half way from the knee.

When the 'peace' is finally restored, Nathan's people found out that Gene while Gene was brought on willfully, he was not allowed out to leave as he wished. During the changing of leadership from humanity to Evolved, Gene's Evolved status becomes revealed to those at the facility he was working out, but was able to escape. While Gene wonders if he would have been let out on his own, fears of being used as a tool force him to go into hiding. Using his connections and network know-how, Gene attempted to find where his human grandfather was placed, but finds no record of his placement. When Gene went to his grandfather’s residence, he found nothing by rubble, fashioning some of the neglected jewelry of his grandfather’s into a necklace. With no known family to turn to save the father he wishes to avoid, Gene makes the hard decision to go back to New York, equipped with his new limbs and a desire to ensure that his friends are okay.

Through determination and a little luck, Gene soon was able to find Eric and the rest of the gang, finding that most of his equipment has been taken out of the lab in his absence and moved by the old crew. As usual, Gene's skills are found as an indispensable part of the group, the young genius is now equipped with not only the in-depth weapons knowledge from his time with in the defense think tank, making him more dangerous than before.

Despite the more lethal aspects of Gene’s abilities and his past survivalist tendencies, Gene is a changed man, but surprisingly not most would expect a man to in a city filled with death and suffering. Gene feels he has finally found his place and his purpose in life and is often humming a happy tune while engineering the latest device for those he calls friends, the Saints, or hacking his way a shiny new database. While once he encouraged caution and thought people trusted too quickly, Gene finds himself often encourging people to keep the body count to a low as well as engaging in 'positive thinking'.

Timeline

  • Stuff happens. It's awesome.

Quotes

  • "Yes, a lot of people are dead and our government is trying to hunt us down. Yes, it sucks. If you want to drink about it and shoot someone in the head, talk to Ramon. If you want to help me, get me a Snapple and tell me who was the hotter Catwoman: the one from the 70's TV show or the one from Batman Returns?"

Trivia

  • While Gene was raised Baptist and considered himself a Christian, current events have caused him to have a religious ‘revelation’, causing him to seek and depend on faith from the ‘Big Mechanic in the Sky’. While he doesn’t mind atheistic views, he prefers people to not curse or take the Lord’s name in vain while building them stuff and often can be seen praying before a big mission.
  • Gene has killed no one via guns or fist punches. Those to access to his 'toys' may have killed a few people. Dark Future R2-D2’s body is said smeared with the blood of his foes, which are too numerous to name.
  • Gene's tries his best to shield others from the fact that his limbs are not all natural. It disturbs him almost as much as it disturbs others. Another health concern is a terminal illness, one that is only known by Saints and close friends. It is currently unknown exactly what it is, how he got it, or if it is something that has been with him when he was still a teen.
