Dominick Messel is a pilot for hire who also happens to be a company agent. He also really likes his bow and arrows.

History

+ From Birth to College

Bristol, Tennessee. Home of one of NASCAR's most famous races, and also the birthplace of Dominick Messel. Born on June 3rd to a family of race car fanatics, Dominick was doomed to become a passionate fan of the sport from an early age. There are literally hundreds of photographs of the man as a child, dressed in the same gear that the professional drivers wore at that time in history. Dominick's father, Billy, was a semi-professional racer in his younger days, never able to break into the bigger circuits, while his mother was a stay-at-home mother. Dominick ended up being the fifth child out of nine in his family, putting him squarely in the middle of the sibling order.

In order to preserve their sanity, all Messel children were required to take four after-school activities once they got to middle school (only one in elementary). Dominick started racing cars, practicing archery, shooting, and cooking. He took a fair bit of flack for cooking, but he also showed that he wasn't bad at it, though his real skills were on display on a track or on the archery range. He won his fair share of tournaments in both disciplines growing up, learning how to hunt with both guns and bow while also making a local name for himself on the junior racing circuits.

As he took up hunting, Dominick would become concerned with the environment as he grew through his teenage years. Perhaps it was the amount of time he spent outdoors, but he found himself drawn to the environmental sciences. His senior year of high school, Dominick made a dramatic decision regarding his future. He applied to and was accepted into the University of Alaska - Southeast, located in Juneau, Alaska, for their Environmental Science program. He wanted to try living in a location that was completely different from where he grew up and try new things.

The man did exceptionally well at his school, where he was able to continue his archery and firearms practice that he enjoyed as a kid while still learning about a completely new environment. He learned more about survival and medicine while he lived in Alaska, as well as a completely new breed of vehicles that didn't always have two or four wheels. He even learned the basics of flying, as much of Alaska is inaccessible without either an extreme amount of travel time or an airplane. Helicopters were his preferred flying vehicle, though he did learn how to fly small airplanes.

+ A New Job

When he was 21, he was staying at a friend's cabin when life took a turn for the extremely weird. The girl he was staying with was out picking up some supplies when he heard a scream from outside. It had been too soon for Sheila to return, though. Grabbing his bow and arrows, he walked outside to see who was out there. Outside he found a pair of men, one clawing viciously at the ground, trying to burrow his way through. The other was intently focused on him, through the man turned to look at Dominick with steely green eyes. Dominick picked up on a threat when he felt it coming and only had time to unleash a single arrow before he found himself clutching at his head, finding himself blind and deaf all at once. It only lasted for a few seconds, though. The arrow had managed to strike the man's throat, putting him down.

There were a couple of Company Agents who were chasing this thing and trying to put it down. Turns out it had been responsible for some mysterious murders that looked the same, both on land and sea. They witnessed the young man put the Inundator down, and the decision was made to recruit him into the fold. Believing that while evolution was good, that abominations like that man needed to be put down for the good of humanity, Dominick agreed. He would learn later that the man had actually driven himself crazy when he lost control of his Inundation powers, overloading his own mind permanently, which had driven the man crazy in the first place. The man who he saved, Brandon Thomas, would eventually become his primary Company partner, with the ability of Superhuman Sapience, until Brandon was killed by a sniper bullet four years later.

It was easy for him to finish his degree while working for the Company in their Alaska facility, where he received training when he wasn't in school (and he had some great help from some new tutors at the Company that made finishing his degree much easier, given his new responsibilities). His social life suffered some, but it was worth the sacrifice, for he was doing real work now. His skills with most types of vehicles was considered a great boon for their location, and he would eventually become a particularly useful human partner for missions involving great travel, be it by air or by land. He received the usual Company training as well in addition to training with aerial vehicles.

Dominick gained a reputation in Alaska's facility as a calm and cool partner. He wasn't one to get overly excited or overly concerned about a particular assignment. Part of that was because he was often considered the getaway plan, and wasn't always in the front line. Also, he prefers to take his targets down with a bow instead of with a gun where feasible, something that sometimes grates on the nerves of his superiors. But, he's gotten results with a storm of arrows, particularly when shooting them out of a helicopter.

Now 26, Dominick has been reassigned to New York to help with the growing issues in that city, and is just arriving and is to report in for assignment, his profile forwarded ahead to those in charge. He has been issued a Company helicopter and has been given the cover story of a pilot-for-hire, allowing him to not have to worry about dealing with the details of an annoying boss.
