"Gabby and Hiro's Excellent Adventure"

Various

Hiro has been very careful not to leave the Deveaux Building in recent days. He's got people to look after here, and the fact of the matter is he's not entirely sure what he can do for everyone outside in the wider world. Couple that with the strange things that seem to be happening with his powers and it is fairly surprising that he hasn't decided to become some sort of recluse. He carries his sword with him all the time now, and he heads down the hallway to knock on the door of the building's superintendent - Gabriel Gray.

In one hand he carries a book - a present of sorts. A 'sorry I have been away and left you to look after the building without any warning' gift. On the cover is a rather angry looking painting of a large reptile of some sorts - Godzilla, maybe? As Hiro opens the door, however, he looks around to find no Gabriel at all. With a slight frown, he steps inside.

"Gabriel?"

When he receives no answer, Hiro sighs a little and shifts the book in his hand to place it on the table. As he does so it slips free from his hand, falling open to a rather colourful depiction of Godzilla breathing fire breath at some other, smaller monster. And then, bizarrely, Hiro vanishes soundlessly.

And even more bizarrely, so does Gabriel - wherever he is.

The past few nights have been long and sleepless for Gabriel Gray. On the run from whoever it is that's hunting them down, he and Zelda have been are now waiting for their meeting with Angela Petrelli. Fortunately, invisibility has its uses, and Gabriel has managed to evade the government for now. He happens to be using it right this moment as he stares soundlessly out the window, the curtains pulled open just slightly so he doesn't have to hold him. He turns his head back to the bed, where Zelda sleeps. He would love to be asleep beside her, but he would much rather keep an eye out for the two of them.

Frowning slightly, he turns his eyes back to the window, wondering when this is all going to be over. He's half tempted to drop Zelda off somewhere safe, and keep the feds on himself… he even went so far as to dress for the act, but he couldn't go through with it. Even if he did, he couldn't guarantee they won't find her anyway. His brow furrows as his thoughts trouble him, but he's seen to forget all about them.

With no idea what's happening or that it's about to come, Gabriel vanishes without a sound, the view of the cracked parking lot disappearing right before his eyes.

And instead of where they were moments ago, Hiro now stands on a grassy plain directly opposite Gabriel. He blinks a couple times behind his glasses, reaching up to adjust them before looking around curiously at their surroundings. The place is immediately strange, many of the plants that border a heavily forested area around the northern side of the plain are overly large and not at all like any that Hiro has seen before. The sky seems remarkably blue and everything has a quality of being utterly unspoilt. On top of all this are the herd of Triceratops that appear to be roaming about the landscape - all in all very, very strange.

"Gabriel? What are … "

Hiro's voice trails off, however, when he notices the dinosaurs. Particularly the large one ten or so feet from them that now appears to be eyeing the pair cautiously.

Eyes adjusting to the sudden burst of light, and, well, the fact that he is decidedly /not/ in the hotel room anymore, Gabriel brings a hand up to his face, blocking the sun as he looks around. "Where… ?" he begins, eyes moving to Hiro right in front of him. "… /Hiro?/" Gabriel says, a little taken aback. He hasn't seen him in so long, and now here he is right in front of him. This must explain the sudden transportation to everywhere. "Where are we?" he says, taking a look around and noticing a herd of Triceratops nearby. "Definitely not New Y…"

A herd of Triceratops. He immediately looks back to them, mouth falling open. "D— dinosaurs?" And that's not all! Right about now is when he notices the large one about ten feet away, looking at the both of them. Mouth really falling open this time, he gapes up at the giant. "Holy shit."

"I don't understand … "

Hiro stares blankly for a moment, as though not quite parsing the presence of a real life dinosaur very, very close to them. He lifts a hand, pointing at it before falling back into his native Japanese.

"<Dinosaur.>"

The Triceratops takes a few stomps towards the pair, approaching with cautious bravery as it finishes up the branch of low-lying shrub it was chewing upon. However, it suddenly lifts its head as though to sniff the air and lets out a loud rumble of some sort. The other triceratops turn about and follow after it at what can best be described as a run for the bulky creatures. As they begin to disappear down the plain, a louder and more terrifying screech can be heard from the treeline.

"<Holy shit.>"

Visibly shaken, because, hell, they're /in the damn period of the dinosaurs,/ Gabriel turns to Hiro. "Hiro! Take us back!" he says, waving his arms in the air. "We have to get the hell out of here!" He takes a few steps forward, but stops as the triceratops roars, thinking that perhaps his sudden movement frightened it. After all, he doesn't want to piss a dinosaur off. It could squash him flat, and he doesn't think he'll come back from that.

But when it takes off, he frowns, his curiousity getting the better of him for a moment— that is, until the more terrifying screech comes from inside the forest. "… Hiro?" he whispers, frozen, staring at the treeline. "I really think we should go."

"<Yes!>"

Hiro couldn't agree more, reaching out with a hand to grab Gabriel's shoulder and focus his attention on teleporting away. However, it seems as though it isn't working - at least not the way they want it to work. As Hiro squeezes his eyes shut and concentrates, time appears to speed up around them slightly - a massive Tyrannosaurus Rex emerging from the trees and approaching them with the speed of a Benny Hill credit sequence. Realizing that they aren't teleporting, Hiro opens his eyes to find the giant creature looming over them - snorting and snuffling loudly.

"Stay still, Gabriel. It cannot see things that do not move."

A long, deathly pause as the Tyrannosaurus Rex stares at them and, then, roars so loud that Hiro is stricken momentarily deaf.

"He sees us!" Hiro shouts in terror, "Run away!"

And with that, he grabs Gabriel's arm and attempts to hurl him along and away from the beast.

When Hiro grabs his hand, Gabriel is more than relieved. They're getting the hell out of here. His eyes are kept on the treeline, scanning for the spot the beast is going to emerge (and hoping he'll never actually see it emerge, as he already has enough nightmares), but after a moment he realizes they sure aren't moving. Time is literally speeding up around them, and as the Tyrannosaurus Rex bears down them, getting impossibly close to the point Gabriel may just start screaming like a girl, Hiro finally stops doing whatever it is he's doing.

The absurdity of the situation dawns on Gabriel as Hiro tells him to freeze. He does just that: he doesn't move a muscle, and if he were smart, he would use his invisibility. Sometimes, though, when a Tyrannosaurus Rex is staring you down, you just don't think of the simple and easy thing.

The sudden roar deafens Gabriel as well, and his entire body freezes with sheer terror. However, his brain decides HEY, RUN, and a burst of adrenaline surges through him and he. Takes. Off. Making sure to keep an eye on Hiro just in case he falls back (and hoping Hiro will do the same, because at this point there's no telling who is running faster), he does everything he can to put more distance between himself and the dinosaur.

They run. Oh, how they run from the Tyrannosaurus Rex. And for whatever reason, the dinosaur either isn't all that hungry or is more curious than vicious - it doesn't chase at full speed. It lumbers after them, certainly at speed and certainly pushing them to run at their very fastest but it stays far enough behind. It may lose interest in the chase or it may just decide to end it at any moment. Who knows?

Hiro leads the way a little, rushing towards the trees once again with Gabriel in tow.

I'm not gonna die, I'm not gonna die, I'm not gonna die. Gabriel keeps repeating it over and over in his head. Regeneration wasn't going to work had he been flattened by a triceratops, and it certainly isn't going to work if he's eaten by the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Which doesn't seem to be getting any closer, but that certainly isn't stopping Gabriel running as fast as he can. When Hiro turns towards the trees, Gabriel follows, pounding the ground and willing himself to go faster.

Once they pass into the trees and run for what seems like a very long time, the pair finally find the sound of dinosaur is no longer immediately audible. Taking a chance to pause, Hiro draws his sword and looks around warily at the thick undergrowth they've found themselves in.

"My powers are not working properly."

"Not working properly?" Gabriel repeats, staring at Hiro once they finally come to a stop. He leans up against a nearby tree, bent over, breathing heavily. He manages to pull himself up to stare at Hiro helplessly. "You mean we're… stuck here? We can't be stuck here! I have Zelda! She was just… left back there in the hotel! They could be there at any moment! We have to go back, Hiro! We have to go back!" He looks around wildly, as if a time machine will appear out of thin air, but he knows it won't. After a moment, he takes a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves. "Is that what happened?" he says, looking back to Hiro, still keeping a wary eye on their surroundings. "Why I just… showed up here?"

"I think so," Hiro answers, "I did not mean to teleport you here … I do not know how I did it without you being in the same place. This is very strange."

It is at that moment that the loud, vicious screech returns and Hiro turns around in time to be nose to nose with the Tyrannosaurus Rex. He lifts his sword up, looking like he should be part of a certain painting, before he takes a swipe at it. The damage is superficial at best but the creature is taken aback enough to rear away, still screeching before it prepares to renew its attack.

As though struck by a thought, however, Hiro turns to Gabriel and holds out an arm - "Grab on!"

"It might just be.. another part of your power that you haven't mastered yet," Gabriel says, venturing a guess. He begins to shrug, but it turns into a grimace and look of terror when the Tyrannosaurus Rex announces its return. His hand suddenly alights with electricity, the blue streaks of light arcing over his hand which he instinctively throws out, sending it flying right into the face of the dinosaur. Combined with Hiro's sword swipe, all it really seems to do is piss the animal off: it lets out a tremendous roar that's louder than ever, and in an act of desperation, Gabriel grabs Hiro's arm. "What are you going to do!" he yells, eyes glued to the massive beast.

"TELEPORT!" Hiro shouts back, squeezing his eyes shut and, amazingly, they travel through time. But … not in the usual way. As they stand there, time appears to race part them at millions of years a second. The dinosaur disappears, the very earth itself appears to shift and undulate as it erodes and grows with the passing of aeons. At last, Hiro peers this way and that as time seems to slow back to a normal pace. Except for the fact that they're floating in the ocean and there is no more dinosaur, their situation has little improved.

Shutting his eyes tightly shut, Gabriel knows they're dead. There's no way that's going to work! It's not that Gabriel doesn't have faith in Hiro, he's just so terrified that he knows fate will work against them, and he's going to be eaten by this dinosaur. A dinosaur. But then, beautifully, magically, wonderfully, they're not eaten, but moving through time, finally ending up in the middle of the ocean. Looking every which way, even down, expecting a huge shadow to be rising from beneath them, Gabriel turns to Hiro and practically leaps on him, giving him a huge hig. A relieved laugh escapes him, and he all but cheers into the surrounding air. Not eaten by a dinosaur! Thank God. "That was— that was something, Hiro, you saved us!" Gabriel says, finally relaxing a bit and taking a real look around. "Where— no … when do you think we are?"

"I think now … " Hiro says, before explaining himself more thoroughly, "I mean, when we should be. But I do not know for sure." He continues to tread water, looking around curiously.

"Do you think you can teleport us to the city?" From there, Gabriel can at least get back to the hotel. He doesn't want to be out here treading water for an extended period of time. He's far too worried about Zelda, even though they haven't been gone that long. It just seems like a lifetime. He shivers slightly, whether from the water or taut nerves is anyone's guess.

"I can try -"

But even as Hiro speaks, they are both suddenly thrown through time and space in much the same manner that brought them together in the first place. Hiro finds himself standing, drenched and confused, in Gabriel's apartment whereas Gabriel is right back where he disappeared from - and less than a minute has passed.

In Gabriel's apartment, Hiro blinks several times and sighs.

"<This isn't good.>"

As soon as he realizes he's back in the apartment, Gabriel lets out a sigh of relief, and falls onto the barely standing chair, the pitiful thing letting out a loud creak. Not caring if he gets it wet, he leans back throws his head back so that he's looking at the ceiling. Bringing both hands up and dragging them down his face slowly, he shakes his head. Looking over at Zelda, he frowns, worrying about Hiro. He hopes he didn't throw himself through time again. Suddenly transporting the two of them sixty-five million years into the past? That can't be good. Making a mental note to get into contact with his Japanese friend as soon as possible, he moves into the bathroom to get out of his wet clothes. He proceeds to dry off, throwing some sleeping pants on before falling into bed next to Zelda, suddenly far too tired to worry about anything else. If the feds come tonight, he'll just fight them off in his pajamas.
