So…in the efforts to do something, anything, to jump start things here again, I want to open a discussion about possible story lines…again.

What are people interested in seeing with their characters? What are they wanting with their character(s)?

Where can we take the game, collectively, to generate more interest? Are there any plot arcs you wizards out there are looking to put into play? How can we help build plot like that with you guys?

We've lost a lot of people lately do to inactivity which is making people leave which is leading to inactivity so, you can see the vicious cycle.

So…yeah. Just chat!

That's right we're in the mode to get down south. Cody and Mark will be doing Final packing on their end Tomorrow (hopefully) and will catch their flight Wednesday. You all don't have too, Mark has things to do.. Like find a guide and all that, make some last minute arrangements and all that. But I do need everyone down there by time it time to fly out of Manaus for the tiny resort where the adventure begins.

Now… Speaking of the flight…

I need to know the best time to set this baby up. So… between the dates of… May 8th - 22nd, what does everyone's schedule looks like. I know it's a 2 week period, but I want to make sure that everyone gets a chance to be there. It's the first big scene!!

Let me know! And make sure times are posted with PST EST and so on that way I can calculate.

And don't forget the adventure will be kept on a special page:
http://heroesmush.wikidot.com/the-amazon

So you can link it to your page if you want! :D

Another general "this is where I'd like my PCs to go" thread.

Randall: The carnival is very much what he's been looking for - maybe too much, in the long run - but at least at first, he'll jump at the chance to hire on in whatever role they feel would work.

George: It's an election year (no he's not pursuing Nathan's Senate seat, that thing is cursed!) so I think it'd be funny to have Timmy Crane or his son run against him. And he can continue to play straight man to the wacky hijinks of Hallis and company.

Matt: Needs a partner (needs to meet Maggie and Laurie too, but don't want to just glom on and feel like a third wheel). Janice is around. Junior is around, and IIRC his ability hasn't been explored yet. Maury may also cross his path later.

Carl: Still leaning toward "abilities are mostly dangerous", which seems like a good fit for the Company. Could be dragged out from behind his desk and pressed into service as a field agent, despite reluctance and learning curve.

This thread isn't just about my character, but I will discuss Sarissa a bit too. It's mostly for people to discuss what they might plan to do with their characters in Volume Five. Doesn't have to be too in-detail. It's more about brainstorming, and forming connections with other players/characters, and maybe asking for help if you can't think of anything. What do you see your character doing once the government backs off? Will you try to resume your normal life? Will you leave behind your past and look to the future? Will something good happen to your character? Something bad? I know that we don't have all the details about Volume Five and what it will contain, and some of those details are even now still being decided. But you can at least start generating some of the "personal plot" ideas mentioned in the thread below this one.

Now for the part about me!

Something is going to happen this week that will impact Sarissa rather greatly. The end of Volume Four will end a lot of other things too. I'm not sure what I want to do with Sarissa in Volume Five. Ever since Novak showed up to whisk Elisabetha away, however many IC years ago, things in Sarissa's life have been uncertain and chaotic. She doesn't know what to expect anymore, and she is generally someone who prefers to be in control. When the Grand Finale is over, and the dust has settled, Sarissa is not going to be in control of much at all. So I see her trying to regain some degree of mastery over her life. Whether that means returning to the "normalcy" of being a wife, mother, and manipulator of others, or if she is going to try to start over in a setting where she has control from the very beginning, or maybe reinvent herself and try something completely new — regardless of what winds up happening, I'd like to be involved with more people on the MUSH, rather than just a select few.

If anyone thinks they could establish a connection to a distraught but still rich and powerful woman who is looking for some meaning to her life… Let me know! Also post if you have ideas for your characters that need a position filled.

Thanks!

Volume Five is coming…

And this is where you can let us know what you might like to see as far as upcoming plots and themes go.

This isn't the venue to talk about SPECIFIC details, certain characters, plots you'd like to run yourself, or to critique anything. But if you're thinking, "It would be really cool to see <suchandsuchatheme> like <example>", or "Please bring in the Carnival!" this is the place to do it. Chances are, we might already have some of these ideas too — or not! Who knows! Just throw stuff out there and it'll get added to the pool.

Your input is mucho appreciated. You guys do make the game, after all!

This is a little trickier than usual - we're doing things in one time period, but aiming for a plot payoff in another - so it seems like a good candidate to toss lots of ideas into one thread and try to match them up. So here's a start:

Randall: Starts working at the pawn shop, then the crazy former owner dies and leaves him in charge.

George: Gets elected, hires the present-day members of Special Projects, is a jerk to Sierra on at least one occasion. Significant time in Washington DC, if you want your PC to have been there.

Matt: No idea! Maybe investigating Daphne's thefts. Any hooks involving Janice would also be cool.

Carl: Somewhere overseas working for the CIA, if you want your PC to have been there.

Not sure how often people check the wiki forums to even see this, but thought I'd post it anyway. The discussion today in the OOC Lounge made me realize a lot of people on this game have 360s, and I thought it'd be great to have a place to post gamertags.

I won't have my 360 until Wednesday, (though I admit I'm hoping they get it here even earlier, since it's already been processed at a postal facility just an hour and a half away from me, I'm not holding my breath), I do already have a Games for Windows Live account I'm hoping I can use on the 360. If I am able to, my gamertag is Fobok.

Being a boy of space, Tyson knows that he cannot correct the many wrongs of the world by himself. Thus in the year since his departure from New York City distraught of the part he played in the disappearance of a cherished friend, he has been looking for people- good people that could help him out if he ever needed them. Of course, not all the people Tyson has met have been good; in fact some of them have hurt a lot of people.

If you have a character design you weren't sure how to get involved in the game, this is a start in that direction.

For his own part, Tyson has come across one person he does not know how to explain. They look like his mother, Sarah Keller, but in no way do they act like her. They are cruel and what's more is that they have the power to replicate. There is definitely more than meets the eye to this woman as even Tyson's father, Alexander Harris, has explained in her initial departure. If only he were around to help his poor son deal with a woman on her way to New York to cause havoc in the name of Marcus Greyboldt.

These are playable characters that can be applied for with their own dynamicism being reason enough to want them on the grid. Except for Marcus because he is a very bad man. <.<

So! In Volume Four, my alt Maggie will have been with the NYPD for over a year as a detective in Homicide. Someone should totally app/become her parter. (Right now she's partnered with the NPC "O'Meara", a creation and old pal of Felix who could conceivably be apped too.)

AND/OR someone should totally app her own personal Castle. >.>

Anyway, more police in general would be good times.

I, so far, have little idea what I want to do with Jamie in the jump ahead. I figure the court case for her father will be finished by then, but I haven't even figured out how that'll go yet.
Now that folks have had time discuss and vote, the results are in! The significant majority of you guys, the players, are in favour of change — either in the form of a "reset" or a jump forward.

Given the discussion, +poll results and various discussions (player/player, player/staff, staff/staff…), we feel that we've come to the happiest meduim we can find! Rather than doing anything to time travel or alter the past to change the present, we're going with a Jump Forward: by hopping from 2008 and picking up in 2009 a year later, the game can experience the revitalization a time jump brings, give characters some space to work with and provides lots of fun plot opportunities, while still keeping our history intact!

We're looking at officially starting Volume Four, and thus the leap ahead, in mid-to-late September (coincidentally coinciding with when Heroes starts airing its new season… curious) to give you a chance to wrap up and/or go through with any plots you wanted to finish this Volume, as well as think about where you want your character to be in a year, and to plan with your fellow players if you like.

With no huge dramas involving people with abilities hitting people in the year's break, it's up to you how subtle or dramatic the change is, as people carry on with their not-so-normal lives in this seemingly normal world.

… That is, until September.

Feel free to offer helpful suggestions and talk about the leap forward here!

BILLY MAYS HERE FOR THE LEE JONES WHAT NEXT?! PROJECT

(R.I.P.)

You've already seen the Lee Jones Plot Invention Method at work in your laundry, whitening and brightening your clothes, I mean giving you lots of cool plots for your characters, but now there's a NEW method out there, the last one told you how to make plots without staff, this one tells you how to make plots without /having any friends!/

The key to this kind of plot is this:

You must decide what about your character you want to change or show off.

This can be a power, it can be a relationship, it can be a belief or conviction, it can be a duty or occupation or skill. We'll call that your character trait.

1. Decide whether you want to change the trait or just show it off.
2. Either way, you need to put pressure on that trait.

BUT HOW YOU SAY?

It is very simple.

You have to screw things up.

- Relationships, just do something stupid, everyone does. Or ask the other person if they want to!
- Skills, you try to do something with your skill and you blow it, now you have to fix it.
- Belief, your belief puts you in trouble or does something terrible
- Duty, just FAIL

The plot is fixing your screwup!

3. Finally, once you have fixed your screwup, reaffirm the trait or how it has changed in a new scene.

ITS THAT SIMPLE

So "where do you want your character to go?" is the same question as "how do you want your character to screw up?"

I found this module else-wiki that turns out to be super! Not everyone has the gumption (or time) to make fancy timelines of all their RP — but it turns out there's a way for the wiki to do it for you. It uses the tag system without having to actually… well, go to the tags system.

All you do is use this code and replace CHARACTER with a character name:

[[module ListPages tags="CHARACTER" separate="no" perPage="10"]] ||~ %%linked_title%% || %%author%% _ %%tags%% || [[/module]]

It lists all the pages that character is tagged in (by date, newest at the top), everyone tagged in that page, and who created it, plus it breaks off after a certain point into pages after a certain point so it's not spammy. And it's customizable! WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?

I've added it to Angela's page so you can see an example!

Volume Four: A Big Change?

Hi everyone!

As our Volume Three: Corruption nears its end, we're getting ready for Volume Four behind-the-scenes. We really want to kick it off with a bang and give you guys some excitement and really meaty new stories to sink your teeth into. We have some pretty earth-shattering ideas for the next Volume, but we need your help! Since one such idea could literally change everything, we're presenting it to you, the players, to discuss before any decision is made.

The idea is that, in a final plot of Volume Three, something happens that resets time. Basically, what this would do is rewrite history from the time Sylar comitted his first murder onward. It could potentially another point in time, but you get the drift: Heroes MUSH history would be altered. We'd also probably jump to the present year. Keep in mind that there'd be a big plot happening ICly soon after the change.

Since we've been open (two years in February), characters shift and change, players come and go. As such, some characters' stories wind up with a lot of loose ends or important figures who don't have players anymore. We don't want people to feel stuck, run out of steam with their current plots, or, for newer players, have unsureness about how to jump in when there's all that convoluted history.

Think of it as a reimagining of your characters. Not extreme as Dark Future ('cause this timeline would probably be less tragic), but what would happen if things ran a bit differently. The aim is to inject freshness and newness into the stories and be able to open up new and different angles (and even characters in the case of canon characters) — in a respect, starting over. When we do start up Volume Four, there will be changes for the game as a whole (all good things to make it cooler for you, hopefully, no worries!), so a reimagining isn't out of theme!

We're assuming our main concern is the same one you guys might have. The pros are that it opens up opportunies and starts new. Cons are that character relationships and all of the story we've built up (most relevant to older players) is changed. That's important to us too! It's a big decision. Remember that we're just laying it on the table as an option at this point. We want your input and suggestions.

In-game, there's a new command, +poll. Please weigh in there also when it's up! See +help +poll. While this forum serves as open discussion between everyone, +poll serves as an "official" voting arena so staff can check out everyone's opinions at a glance.

Discuss! :)

What the forum as a whole is:

a place for open discussion and suggestion

a place to plan, scheme or otherwise talk about plots and get other players involved

a place to ask for other players to fill certain character slots

a place to talk about plot hooks, foster RP and plan scenes

a place to chat with your fellow players about Heroes MUSH in general!

a positive experience! :)

What it is not:

a place to leave feedback for staff (use +feedback in game or just talk to us)

a place to criticize other players

a place for Heroes spoilers

a replacement for @mail when it comes to private conversations or for +bboard when it comes to announcements/vacation posts

a place to complain and be non-constructive!

Now that that bizness is outta the way, enjoy! :)
