Finding Kaito

Suresh's Apartment, Brooklyn, NYC

Hiro appears in the corridor outside Suresh's apartment since suddenly appearing and talking excitedly in people's homes doesn't do much for the jangled nerves that seem to be uniform these days. He does take a quick look up and down the hall to make sure he hasn't surprised anybody with his sudden appearance and then he knocks on the door, waiting for a reply.

Perhaps not! Especially with the past couple of months that the Suresh apartment has seen. Of course, Molly would be overjoyed to see the Japanese man, since she hasn't done so since long before being moved to Kirby Plaza. And even now that she's back, she's a little more subdued, cautious, and when the knock on the door comes, she goes running to answer it. However, as times have changed, she doesn't throw it open. Instead, she just goes to find a chair and try and look through the peep hole. As she does so, she calls out, "Who is it?"

"Hiro Nakamura," declares Hiro Nakamura, waving at the little peep hole in the wall with all the enthusiasm of an excited Japanese man, "Is that you, Molly?"

He cranes his neck forward to try and see through the lens in the door, although he doesn't see anything. Then again, the voice who askes who it was seems to be a dead giveaway. He reaches into his coat and pulls out a hastily folded-over photograph, clasping it in one hand.

Hearing Hiro's voice and then seeing him wave at her through the peep hole makes the little girl almost fall off her height correcting chair. Molly scrambles off it and then throws the door open, all but tossing herself at the otherwise excited Hiro. "Hiro!" she squeals with glee. "It's me!"

"Molly!" Hiro says in return, leaning back a bit to look at her inquisitively before stating, "You've grown!"

He again cranes his neck, this time to look past the door and into the apartment proper, "Can I come in?"

"I have?" Molly seems proud about that, looking down at her feet, as if expecting them to look farther away from her face than normal. "Maybe I have! We haven't really checked lately. Maybe we should." Because that's what parents and kids do, right? "Oh! Of course!" That's right, manners. Trying to sound grown up and like a hostess, she adds, "Please come in. Can I get you anything?"

"Yes," Hiro says with a nod, looking at the folded-over photograph in his hand for a moment.

His expression is suddenly much more solemn than usual, a light frown creasing his features as he contemplates how to phrase the question. After a moment he just asks, "Can you help me find someone?"

Shutting the door behind Hiro, Molly makes for the kitchen. There's a table there and the two of them can safely sit at it. Since Mohinder and Matt are out for now, it's not that hard to keep her voice down. "I'm not really supposed to," she prefaces her answer with the warning. "Who is it?" Her mind is already made up to help Hiro. This is the man that has saved her countless times, she'd help him find anyone.

"My father," Hiro says quietly, noticing Molly's being quiet and deciding to do the same as he sits down at the table, "Kaito Nakamura."

He pauses for a little while, weighing up his options. He doesn't want to get Molly in trouble by asking her to use her power, but at the same time has to find his father and Molly is really the only way to do that.

Luckily, Hiro doesn't have to weigh options for very long. As soon as he tells her who it is he wants to find, she holds out her hand to take the photograph from him. She noticed it when he came in, but didn't think to ask why he had it. "I'll do it for you, Hiro." And if Mohinder doesn't find out, then he doesn't need to know that she did this. All she has to do now is to grab her atlas.

Hiro nods, his worry about getting Molly in trouble finally overrun by his concern for his father. He unfolds the photograph, placing it flat on the table. Although creased, the image it displays is still easily viewed. A collection of individuals, all standing on a certain important rooftop for the camera. Hiro points to the stern-looking Japanese man in a suit in the back row, standing amidst the other … Founders. Yes, it is /that/ photograph.

"That is him."

The picture. That picture Molly knows very well. It contains her Nightmare Man. As soon as Hiro unfolds it in front of her, she almost flings herself backwards until her shoulderblades hit against the back of the chair. "You're father is one of them?" she asks him incredulously. Hiro was one of the good guys, wasn't he? But, why is he with the Nightmare Man?

"One of them?" Hiro asks with a furrowed brow, looking at the photograph curiously for a long moment.

"I'm sorry," he says after a moment, moving to draw the photo back and away from Molly, "You don't have to look for him if you don't want to." All the same, he can't hide the disappointment in his expression.

One of the Founders. In the same group as her Nightmare man. "N-no." Molly slowly slides up toward the table. It's not like she's asking her to find him. It's someone else entirely. Someone who doesn't look back at her when she tries to sleep. "I'll do it." With a darting hand, she stops him from taking the photograph away. She didn't get a very good look at Kaito in that glimpse. Once she's seen him, she nods once and goes for atlas. Once she's settled, she closes her eyes and takes a push pin to paper.

Hiro is quietly grateful that Molly decided to look for his father after all, and he sits there peering eagerly at the atlas and the momentarily-hovering push pin. He waits and watches, eyes focused on the atlas.

As her eyes close, something strange happens. The pages of the atlas don't start flying one way or another. Creasing her brow, Molly keeps the push pin hovering over the book and thinks harder. For some reason this one is extremely hard to find. Hard, to work through. She can't even picture him more than the two dimensional image that she just saw from Hiro's photograph. Frowning, the pages slowly start to turn one way, but the pin doesn't sink down anywhere. "I can't find him." Which normally means that the person is dead. But this is a very different can't find than anything else. She can tell that he's out there, just not where he is. "I think he's over the Pacific Ocean." This is puzzling for her. "But I can't actually tell where he is."

Hiro blinks, looking at the atlas and then at Molly. When she says she can't find him his heart sinks but then he learns that he isn't dead and he is definately relieved to hear that much.

"Maybe he is in a plane?"

"Or a boat," Molly offers, trying to be helpful. "I don't know." And that bugs her. Because she always knows where people are if sh thinks about them hard enough. "I'm sorry." She wishes she could be more help. Is she sick? Is her power going away? No, she can find anyone else just by a quick thought. "I know he's there, but I can't find him."

"It's okay," Hiro says quietly, nodding his head to Molly, "At least I know he is alright."

He moves to retrieve the photograph, folding it up yet again, "Thank you for offering to look, anyway." He gives the particularly cheerful-looking 'Nightmare Man' in the photograph a curious look.

That's true, at least Molly can still tell he's out there. Just not where. "You're welcome." The photograph in his hand is given a wary look, as she already knows what it contains, who is there. "I can try again another time. I'll keep looking." Maybe she'll get lucky at some point.

"Only if you're sure you won't get in trouble," Hiro answers with a look to the photograph, "I don't want you to get in trouble."

He looks thoughtful for a moment before he asks, "Why will you get in trouble … ?"

"Matt and Mohinder want to try and give me a normal life." Molly shrugs. She's not normal, nor will she ever be, but that's just her opinion. "I'll only do it when Mohinder's around." Because Matt can know what she's thinking and Mohinder can't. "I want to help you, Hiro."

"Thank you."

After the explanation, Hiro nods his head in understanding. After everything that has happened to Molly, he can see why giving her as normal a life as possible would make a lot of sense. But she wants to help and he's not going to refuse.

"You're welcome," Molly tells him. "Again." Because she's already told him he's welcome. In all meanings of the words. "Do you want something to drink? Or do you have to go?"

"Something to drink would be nice," Hiro says quietly, realizing he hasn't been doing much of anything except obsessing over what could have happened to his father. And he also realizes he's quite uncomfortable, reasoning it might be the fact that he's sitting down with the cylindrical 'poster container' that actually holds his new non-Kensei sword on his back. He removes it and puts it down to lean against the table.

That or because the chairs at the kitchen table are uncomfortable. Molly doesn't seem to have much of a problem with them, but she easily slips out of one of them to get Hiro a glass of water. "Here you go." Carefully handing the glass over to the Japanese man. "What's in the tube?"

Hiro takes the glass and has a sip before he answers the question, casting a glance towards the tube.

"A sword," Hiro answers, telling the truth rather than sugar-coating it.

"Oh." That's interesting, not exactly a poster, like she thought it was going to be, but that's okay. Maybe a sword is better than a poster. Molly nods, thoughtfully, as she digests that. "Why do you have a sword?"

"To stop villains," Hiro answers in return, giving the tube with the sword in it another look, "I had to get a new one since the Kensei sword was stolen."

Then again, Molly probably remembers that.

That's right. Molly does remember Sylar taking a sword from the second time she saw Hiro. The second time he tried to stop the boogieman. "I wish I could find swords." She can't, though, and so he's stuck finding things the hard way. "You'll find it, though. I know you will. You'll get it back."

"I hope so."

Hiro looks forlorn once again, staring off into the distance. Considering, as far as he knows, Sylar lost it he can only hope it will pop up again in a museum or somesuch before too long. Finishing the water, he puts the glass back down on a table.

"I should go. My father said he would leave clues for me after he disappeared."

"You will." Molly has the conviction of young girls and of not having lived long enough to grow cyncial. She's a little girl, she can't help it. "Sorry I couldn't find him," she apologizes again and stands up to show him to the door. Midway through the motion, she stops herself. Wait. He can just teleport out of here. He doesn't need to door. "Good luck."

"Thank you," Hiro answers with a smile, looking more like his cheerful self once again before he squeezes his eyes shut and disappears! Just like Star Trek!
