| Blackout in Fort Lee, NJ 02-01-2008 |
Print/Web | New York Chronicle |
Thousands of residents in Fort Lee, New Jersey have been left in the dark after a significant power outage hit the area early Saturday night, knocking out the power for homes and businesses in the Bergen County borough. While the cause of the blackout has yet to be identified, the damage is substantial, with many areas still waiting for power to be restored. Residents are being warned that it could take several days for the lights to come on in some areas. With mild temperatures this week, hypothermia from unheated homes is not a great concern; however, residents of Fort Lee are still urged to take precautions and stay warm until the power is back on. Schools and businesses will remain closed until power has been restored and any further damage has been repaired. |

In a mid-afternoon breaking story on the daily newscast, the anchor on the local channel who first brought the tale of the terrible wreck the night previous now has the name of the driver of the car. Heidi Petrelli, age 40, wife of Senator Nathan Petrelli, seemed to have lost control of the vehicle she was driving, and struck the highway wall. Authorities were able to successfully contact Petrelli's mother, Gertrude Hardt. Hardt would not comment on camera, but states that doctors say that Petrelli will likely make a slow, albeit full recovery. Nathan Petrelli, who was recently sworn in as a United States Senator, was unable to be reached for comment. |

| Johannsen Foundation Press Conference 01-15-2008 |
Print/Web | New York Chronicle |
Associated Press - A renewed sense of dedication? In a press conference today, City Councilwoman Arianna Rockford-Johannsen announced that she would be handing the reins of her Johannsen Foundation over in order to provide greater focus upon the needs of her constituents. The Johannsen Foundation, a state-known sponsor of at-risk and health-challenged youth and young adults, was rocked earlier this year by a massive fire that brought it crumbling down. Mrs Rockford-Johannsen's public ratings, although still well above average, have dipped as of late due to time spent rebuilding the organization. "My Foundation has always been a refuge for youth, and a stepping stone upon the path to their future.", Councilwoman Johannsen explained to the press during the afternoon announcement. "I could not let down the many who have and will come to its door seeking a guiding hand. However, my duty to the people of Manhattan and of New York cannot be forgotten, either. Following our newly-elected Senator Nathan Petrelli's example, I restate my pledge to the people to bring our great city towards a change for the better." Mrs. Rockford-Johannsen, wife of prominent New York attorney Richard Johannsen, has expressed an interest in the New York State Senate in the past. |
| Hit-and-Run Victim Walks Away 01-06-2008 |
Video | Local News |
"And now…in the world of weird…" The tv screen switches from the news anchor of the local news, to a field reporter. The report is standing on a small neighborhood street in what appears to be Queens. Around him, cluster a crowd of people competeing for attention on the TV. "Thanks, Ron. It was just another ordinary day here in the Queens. Until residents witnessed an event that leaves the neighborhood divided. Right here…." he starts, moving to indicate a spot on the street, "…residents say they witnessed a man crossing the street get hit by a car. Now, I know what you're thinking. Happens every day, right? But how often does the victim stand and walk away?" The picture cuts to an interview of young kid, surrounded by his friends. You can tell he's all excited about being on TV. "It was crazy, yo! Dre, Skidz, and I was juz chillin' on da stepz when BAM. We seen this dude in a silver BMW just completely nail this white cracker crossin' da streetz." Dre and Skidz nod in the background. "Then the dude in the BMW getz out and was like all scared and stuff and took off. Hit n Run, dawg. But then….dude lying on the ground got up! Dre was like…ZOMBIES! RUN!! I was like, what the f**k kinda stuff is this?" Another cut, this time to an elderly old woman. "It was horrible I tell you. You could just hear the bones breaking. I thought for sure that nice looking fellow was dead. But then, he rolled over, and got up like nothing had happened. I do hope the police catch that criminal in the car that hit him. Didn't even look like he cared." And a third cut scene to a mother and her two daughters, both sipping on hot chocolate. "I just…I've never seen anything like it. The car must've been going at least forty-five or fifty. I mean….how do you just walk away from a hit like that?" The oldest girl tugs her mom's sleeve. "Momma, can we go now. It's cold." Finally the image cuts back to the reporter. "That's just a small bit of the reports we gathered from around here. It's a scene that caused a dispute among neighbors. How fast was the car going? Did the victim just get lightly tagged or was it head on? These are questions that will remain in the realm of speculation right now. For news channel 5, this is George Newberry reporting." |
| NYC Develops Microclimate 01-05-2008 |
Print/Web | New York Chronicle |
Microclimates, which are a local atmospheric zone where the climate is different from the surrounding area, develop from time to time in even the most Urban environments. While these microclimates can be as small as only a few square feet, they can also stretch out several miles in distance. Local climatologists say that this is the cause of a strange weather pattern that developed last night. While meteorologists predicted a small storm in the New York area last night, the storm itself quickly died down and left only a microclimate-caused storm. This rainstorm, stretching only a few blocks in diamater, shifted between rain and hail. The storm started around the Kirby Plaza area and eventually drifted to Central Park, where it died off. Climatologists are still working on what particularly caused the microclimate, though the current theory is that the prior storm may have sparked already building stormclouds. PC Contact: Ophelia |

| Biotech Firm Experiments on E.T.s 02-01-2008 |
Shooting Star |
Officials aren't talking about what's behind the blackout in Fort Lee, but we are! Pinehearst Research, an up-and-coming biotech firm based out of Fort Lee, is supposedly dedicated to "energy initiatives" and eliminating its carbon footprint. How does a multibillion-dollar corporation expect to eliminate its carbon footprint in less than a year? They say natural resources, but an insider tells us that these resources aren't so "natural" after all. We have obtained photographs and video documenting extensive experimentation on live subjects - but these aren't people they're using to try and keep the lights on; these aren't even rats. Pinehearst Research is hoping to use extraterrestrial life to power part of their headquarters. Our source tells us that scientists with the company were attempting their first trial run of the new power supply when something went wrong. The insider couldn't tell us what went wrong, but the problems at Pinehearst Research bled into the public power grid, creating a chain reaction that eventually blew out the power for the entire area. We don't know about you, but here at The Shooting Star, we think we'll stick to earthly resources to keep our lights on. |

| Petrelli Deals With Devil 01-10-2008 |
Shooting Star |
His wife's miraculous recovery, an unexpected win in Congress… Nathan Petrelli has had a good year. After months of speculation, a source close to Petrelli has finally come forward with an explanation for the unlikely happenings: Nathan Petrelli made a deal with the devil! The public has been left in the dark after Petrelli's wife, Heidi, recovered from paralysis last year - a condition that was supposed to be permanent. Family doctors have no explanation for her recovery. Later in the year, Petrelli surprised everyone with a come-from-behind victory in the election, overcoming devastating rumors about his personal life and his younger brother's arrest. So how did Nathan Petrelli achieve these two remarkable feats? According to our source, Petrelli hosted a Devil-summoning ritual. "I took part in the ritual," explains the source, a long-time friend of the Congressman. "There was some kind of star on the floor in red paint, and lots of candles, you know. I had nightmares for months after that." The deal was carried out at the family home in Hyde Park, according to the source, who added that thirteen in total participated in the demonic ritual - including Petrelli's young sons Simon and Monty. After the incantation, which was done in a language the source didn't recognize, the Devil himself appeared. "I almost blacked out right there. The thing smelled awful. I thought he might kill us, but Nathan took charge and started talking to him. I was so scared I didn't hear everything they said." The source couldn't tell us exactly what Petrelli exchanged for his requests. Considering what he received in exchange, however, one can bet he had to pay a heavy price. |

| Real-Life Spider-Man Climbs Walls 01-10-2008 |
Shooting Star |
Someone's been watching a few too many movies - or so residents of the West Side would have you believe. We've received several reports of a mysterious man climbing alley walls late at night with no support harness. "He just climbs right on up there like he's got suction cups on his hands or something," says one spooked witness, pointing to the brick wall where he saw the 'Spider-Man' impersonator climb the wall just last night. "I always see him when I'm coming home from the bars." Another witness claimed she's only seen him once, but she was sure she saw scales. "I don't know what the hell he was, man, but he had scales or something on him and didn't look totally human," she said. "You never know what lives down there in the subway tunnels. I seen all kinds of things down there they say don't exist." The alleys where most of the sightings have been reported are, in fact, within walking distance of subway stops. Could this mysterious real-life Spider-Man be one of the subway dwellers we reported on last month? |

| Headquarters, Sieged 02-01-2008 |
Shooting Star |
The Brawlers' Headquarters(BHQ) seems to be under new management as of recently and those in charge aren't letting the public in… except for a group of men and women entering and exiting the premises wearing uniforms consisting of a black vest with a golden spade on the back. This along with the fact that people wearing the exact same vests have been causing assorted trouble for civillians, such as; committing acts of breaking and entering, hustling, and muggings. That said, if there is a connection between the two groups… the Bronx looks like it will be holding up its reputation for being a shady locale. |
