Son of renowned and controversial geneticist, Chandra Suresh, Mohinder has taken up his father's work. He's based out of NYC now and an agent of the Company.
History
Born to renowned geneticist, Chandra Suresh, Mohinder grew up in Madras, India. For most of his life, he never knew that he had an older sister named Shanti and that she had died before he was born. Mohinder followed in his father's footsteps by pursuing a career in genetics. Living in his father's shadow and defending his name was difficult. When Chandra published his book, 'Activating Evolution,' it prompted a lot of ridicule within their circles and criticism. Father and son became estranged when Chandra moved to New York City to continue his research. His father chose to work as a cab driver while trying to locate people of extraordinary abilities.. for that was the focus of Chandra's work.
Mohinder was teaching at Chennai University when he found out that his father had been murdered. He went to his father's apartment to look for clues and found it in disarray.. and someone inside. After escaping, he was prompted to go to New York City. He moved into his father's apartment and got a job driving a taxi. Mohinder resumed the research his father started. As the NYC apartment was in very much the same state as the one in India, he had to reorganize his father's work. In the process of doing so, he met and befriended Eden, just as his father had. (Unbeknownst at the time, Eden was a plant for the Company.)
When Mohinder received his father's ashes, he returned them to India. While there, he had to make a tough decision. Forget the wild goose chase, stay in his home country and live a respectable existence.. or go back to New York and continue Chandra's work. He chose to continue solving his father's algorithm following a dream in which he learned of his sister, Shanti's, existence. He also learned that Sylar was responsible for his father's murder.
Upon his return to America, he resumed his quest, aided by Sylar, who was masquerading as Zane Taylor. One of the next evolved humans to contact on Mohinder's list. Together, they found Dale Smither, and during this visit to her, Mohinder figured out Zane was really Sylar. Foolishly, Mohinder drugged Sylar with curare and attempted to exact revenge for his father's murder. Sylar quickly gained the upper hand and attacked Mohinder, torturing him. It was Peter's arrival that saved Mohinder. In the ensuing fight, Sylar was knocked out and Peter was seemingly killed. While Sylar was unconscious, Mohinder destroyed the list and took Peter's body to Angela Petrelli.
Mohinder made contact with Thompson at the Company and was introduced to Molly Walker. It seems she had contracted a virus, the same one that killed Shanti. He discovered that his blood was the cure for it. While treating Molly, Mohinder learned of her power and saved her from Matt and Noah Bennet. Together, they escape from the Company, meeting up with D.L., Niki and Micah. He was among the witnesses to the explosion in Kirby Plaza.
In the time following the explosion, Mohinder traveled to Cairo and gave a lecture about evolved humans. Bob, a Company representative, entered the lecture and listened in. He approached Mohinder afterwards, asking for an autograph and offered him a job with the Company. The offer was refused, yet Bob still insisted. Although quite reluctant, Mohinder finally accepted the offer. In this time period, along with Matt Parkman, Mohinder became a legal guardian to Molly Walker.
