Meet Nova. She hits things and gets paid for it.
History
The Land Down Under
Nova spent most of her life in Australia. As a kid, she was a rough-and-tumble sporty little girl who hung out more with the boys. Never particularly academically inclined, Nova excelled more in sports than anything else, and this carried over into her highschool years. She had always planned to be a cop, but, feeling as though this was too lofty of a goal, she stuck to being an athlete, working part-time in a bank to support her lifestyle as a local netball coach and womens' rugby player.
In her mid-20s, she met Brett, a man of the American Navy who had docked for a time at Freemantle. Nova proceeded to fall in love with Brett, and Nova proceeded to throw her life away for Brett. He took her home to New Jersey, married her, and Nova took similar part-time work as she had always done, but this time, she decided to become a cop.
Lovin' A Little Police Brutality in the Morning
It was tenacity and drive that got Nova through cop school, and she found herself working for the New York police department. During this time, her marriage with Brett crumbled into nothing as they separated for two years. She can't recall the last time she had actually seen him, but she does remember getting mailed the divorce papers. She signed 'em, took it in her stride and focused on her new career as Officer Armstrong.
She was 29 when she was fired. Not a very influential person in general, Nova didn't have the reputation or clout to get out of an accusation of police brutality, and as she was generally notorious for being a little reckless and rule-bendy, she was forced to turn in her badge and gun.
As for what she would do next, well… the Company made that decision for her.
Agent Armstrong
One man's trash is another man's treasure. The NYPD didn't care for Nova's style, but the Company were interested. She was recruited as a field agent, and, feeling a little lost and unemployed in the big city, Nova took the job, figuring it was something like security detail for some bigger organisation. She really only came to understand what she had signed up for through actually doing it, not being one for asking too many questions, and has taken it in her stride. She's now been with the Company for six years.
Timeline
May, 2007
- 12th - How Not To Make Friends. Nova runs into Megan at the Common Grounds coffee store. It's not exactly a chance meeting.
- 18th - How To Speak Moon In One Easy Step. By chance, this time, Nova meets Natalie, relatively new Company recruit. Natalie's power becomes the focus of conversation and events, and it's a little weird.
June, 2007
- 22nd - Unexpected Company. Max is back in town, and Nova does the Company a preemptive favour by capturing him before things can get out of hand.
- 25th - Less Than We Bargained For. Nova finds herself in the semi-awkward position of negotiating with Max. Both have piteous chips to bargain with, but it boils down to a job offer, and an acceptance.
- 27th - Bonding and Bruises. Take two, of the above. Nova style. Slightly more successful.
July, 2007
- 4th - Sum of Our Parts. Pays Max another visit, gives him a present, and digs a little deeper.
- 5th - Price of Passage. For a price, Nova finally sets her partner free. Relatively speaking, anyway.
- 12th - Stand Down. Nova and Max hit the town in order to bag and tag Megan when she's on her date with Benjamin. Nova breaks a wrist and knocks a guy out. All in a night's work.
- 13th - I DID NOT KNOW :(. Nova checks in on Megan. With a clipboard. And is mean to Benjamin. Just another work day, really.
- 19th - Natural Disadvantages. Max has gone walkabout, Nova tracks him down. They have a civil discussion about the fact. Or, you know, duke it out in an abandoned apartment complex in Queens. Whatever works.
Quotes
- "Crikey dick." (Unexpected Company.)
- "Wanna grab a beer after this?" -After taking down Benjamin and throwing him over her shoulder. (Stand Down)
Trivia
- She likes shoes and ponies. She generally won't admit this.
