History

Otto Metzger was born in West Berlin, Germany on September 25, 1950. A member of a well-to-do german family, Otto received the best of nearly everything throughout most all of his life. He wore the best clothes, he attented the best schools, and he made the best grades. He graduated the Gymnasium with top honors as a Doctor rerum naturalium, literally a Doctor of Natural Things. The doctorate covers all natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science. He was then sent to study abroad, primarily in the UK, where he persued a medical doctorate concerning the study of the human brain. Otto then went on to accquire a number of other degrees and doctorates, spending year after year studying, researching, and learning all that he could. He traveled around the world, going where the study of engineering, computer sciences and robotics led him. Despite his broad learning, his primary focus was Computer Sciences, and he proved to be a top-class programmer. Dr. Metzger primarily supported himself with freelance work, hiring himself out to Software Companies to create programs for their specific needs, whether it be security programs or actual products. Dr. Metzger's life was his work, and it consumed him utterly. He even attempted to find a chemical substitute for sleep, stating that sleep was a waste of his time, better spent doing other things. Unfortunately, this particular venture failed, and made him quite ill for a week. Since then, Dr. Metzger has regulated himself to a strict sleeping schedule, determined to not waste any more time than is required to function at peak performance. It is possible this experimentation laid the foundation for his eccentricity and unbalanced nature.

In the summer of 1985, Dr. Metzger traveled to America in order to continue his education. He has stayed in the United States for 22 years, going from school to school. Eventually, he settled down in New York city after accquiring an extended green card. He has purchased a modest home on the outskirts of the city, in a more rural area, and makes frequent business trips to destinations around the world. He has written several papers on the subject of Computers, Robotics, and Artificial Intelligence. Some of these papers were translated into english, among other languages. Dr. Metzger is also one of the leading supporters of the development of Artificial Intelligence. He will often collaberate with his fellow scientists, attempting to pool knowledge about how to overcome the next hurtle in their research. While professionally respected and admired, Dr. Metzger's ideas are considered "a tad wild", and detached from reality. Dr. Metzger prefers to call it "original thinking". His fellow scientists worry that he is going senile, and will eventually slip from brilliance into madness. Rumor has it he travels back and forth between Japan frequently, and that he runs secret experiments inside his home. Both are correct, in a sense. Dr. Metzger attends conferences on Robotics and Computation in Japan frequently, and he currently runs several projects from his home. The most prominent is a massive sever-rack where he spends his time attempting to program an Artificial Intelligence, and the other is an attempt to design a way to interface with computers directly via the human brain. He has not yet reached the point of human trials.

Quotes

  • "This project could lead to the dawn of a new age, my boy. Oh yes."

Trivia

  • Dr. Metzger has Thanatophobia, the fear of one's own death.
  • His native language is German, obviously. He has a strong command of English, French, and Japanese.
  • He could be a brilliant hacker if he ever decided to attempt it, but the thought of stealing information and software has never occurred to him.
  • Randomly takes odd jobs to support himself. The stints usually only last a year before he moves on to the next.
