Phillip Katsambis is an officer with the Mounted Unit in the Central Park Precinct of the New York City Police Department.
History
Growing up in Seattle, Phillip was never very close to his family. Stuck in an unhappy marriage, his parents were largely emotionally unavailable and his older sister had her own interests. As a child, he sought validation from outside sources. Willful and independent, young Phillip stood on his own two feet early on. He pestered his parents into assisting him in joining the local Cub Scouts chapter and allowing him to play peewee baseball. Later on, he entered 4-H as well in the equine division, though he never actually ended up having a horse of his own. He would later go on to become an Eagle Scout and play baseball in High School as well as Men’s Lacrosse for a short time.
Though not a particularly academic-minded person, Phillip remained a comfortably average student because of obligations.
Something of a social butterfly, though Phillip never held popularity has a real priority, he certainly was never very hard-pressed for validation during his teen years. This was partially due to the gradual development of his powers over pheromones. Through no real effort of his own, he was actually voted a runner-up for prom king as well as ‘most friendly’ for his senior yearbook.
Not having any plans after graduation, Phillip came to New York on a whim with a few friends. He had been convinced that he needed a change of venue and some much needed time off from life. Staying locked away in his bedroom certainly wasn’t helping. Not having any concrete plans for the future and certainly having little nothing to keep him in Seattle, it seemed like a good enough idea to him at the time. The decision to move would set into place the rest of Phillip’s life.
Getting his first taste of freedom, much of Phillip’s initial time in New York was spent partying and getting drunk. Much like he had felt back home in Washington as a child however, Phillip soon craved a further sense of accomplishment and something more fulfilling. At twenty, he decided to ultimately take at least /a/ step forward.
For his first two years at community college, Phillip stuck to basic courses before declaring himself a Psychology major, which he later changed to Criminal Justice. After receiving his Associates, he was courted by the New York City Police Department. Deciding to go on to the Police Academy, Phillip set his eye on the prize. After graduating, he was positioned as an officer in the Central Park Precinct. He learned to react with better restraint under pressure, and thusly generally made all police procedures he was involved with a calmer and more collected environment.

Phillip received three medals over the course of his career as a police officer, including an award of Excellent Police Duty, Meritorious Police Duty with Integrity, and Exceptional Merit. These were earned through dutiful police work and exemplary service to the community within the Central Park territory. This included being shot once in the arm and stabbed twice in the leg and abdomen on separate incidences. He also prevented a Russian diplomat’s young daughter from being abducted, though that was largely being in the right place at the right time. It likely isn’t too surprising that some terrible things can sometimes happen there.
Through an enthusiastic, above-par performance and making the right friends, Phillip was able to procure himself a place in the Central Park Precinct’s Mounted Unit years later. He went through new training involving equestrian physiology and psychology as well as equitation techniques involving riding ‘military style’ and maneuvering affectively as a police officer atop a mount. Now, he functions primarily on a horse as a keeper of the peace within Central Park as well as elsewhere on occasion when appropriate. Naturally at times, mounted units are used purely as ornamentation.
