Rock and Rumble

Central Park

The night air is a little muggy as the city approaches summer. The concrete paths through the park are lighted by watchful street lamps and the occasional police patrol. The park is unusually empty this evening, save Steven who sits at a small bench, seemingly waiting for someone to arrive. After a little incident at Enlightenment Books a couple of days ago, Steven decided to call up Claudine, inviting her for a stroll in the park to ask a few questions.

Well, of course she has time to answer questions and whatnot, so she headed out dressed in her grey Columbia hoodie and a pair of snug fitting jeans. Spying Steven, Claudine smiles warmly and she bounces on over towards his direction, giving a friendly little wave, "Hey…what's up?"

Steven stands politely as she bounds to him. After giving her a friendly hug and welcoming peck on the cheek, he zips up his own designer hoodie and extends his elbow, inviting Claudine to take his arm as they walk.

"So, whatcha' been up to lately?" He asks with that signature friendly smile, not wanting to interrogate the girl right off bat, besides they were friends and he actually wanted to know.

"Work, work, and more work. Then a bit of studying here and there.." Claudine admits ruefully as she hooks her arm with his own, not thinking anything's up at all. She yawns and stretches an arm in the air as she looks around for a bit, seeing if there's anyone else she might know in the area. "What about you?"

"Yeah, that sounds like you," He chuckles and then looks down at the ground in front of them nervously. Yeah, he was a little nervous. He had a few questions, but he didn't want to sound as though he didn't trust Claudine, although they aren't life long-buddies or anything but he had hoped she would be up front and honest with him, especially since he showed her his /secret/ power.

"I know you're probably not going to like this…but I researched that "Activating Evolution" book on the internet and I found a little book store here in New York that sold it. So I went by there the other day to check them out" He takes a glance at Claudine sheepishly to gauge her reaction.

Claudine hrmms for a few moments, catching a little bit of his nervousness and so she cants her head to the side peering up curiously towards him. "You okay? Kinda seem on edge…" she comments while tucking a few loose strands of hair from her face.

Then at the little bit about Suresh's book, she nods, not really looking surprised or anything. "Um, didnt you have that book before? I told you it was bunk and stuff, remember? And if you went to a place called Enlightenment Books, that's where I got my copy.." she says rather casually.

"Umm, yeah I had the book. Really I just wanted to see if they knew anything about it or anyone who had recently purchased it" He replies, of course he knew he wasn't the only one with powers but Claudine had never mentioned any others she knew. Although he never /actually/ asked her if she knew others, he presumed she would tell him if she did…maybe a little naive on his part.

"But I never got a chance to ask. As soon as I walked into the store, this guy seemed to have accidentally knocked over this bookshelf. I mean the bookshelf was kinda big," He holds out a hand for dramatic effect, "But I didn't think much of it, until he pulled out his phone and it shattered in his hand. The weird thing was it that it shook in his hand first. Not the normal shake, it was like the kind of shake /I/ can do…" Again he glances at her to gauge her reaction.

"What did this guy look like?" Claudine asks curiously, not definitely intrigued. If it was the same guy who suddenly created an earthquake then she may have found someone with a similar set of powers to the both of them. Or maybe it's someone that she knows well..

"And as for people purchasing the book, it's not a guarantee that they'll be like us.." she says matter of factly, though in this city it would be a good bet.

"He was kinda young, but older than me. I think the people in the store called him Peter." He says unsure, "But, yeah, I was really freaked out and had to get out of there. Although I think the woman I met before, named Jane, caught me shaking the counter by accident and wanted to meet with me, but I told her I had to get to class." He seems relieved that Claudine hasn't blown up at him like she kinda did at the Starbucks. He then looks at her and raises a curious eyebrow.

"Do you know of other people with powers? If you do I'd like to meet them…"

"Lots of people have powers. They arent exactly discrete, and so I'm sure that you'll end up meeting them.." Claudine says matter of factly as she runs her fingers through her hair once more as she purses her lips. Yes, she's very familiar with Peter, especially since she had to pretend to be him. And Jane as well, since she was there when the woman was caught.

"Look, these people you've met, like Peter and Jane. They arent good people..hang around a different crowd.." she says softly.

Steven stops in his tracks, surprised. Jane seemed pretty cool at the Starbucks, she even seemed to be into some cool music. And that Peter guy didn't seem like he was bent on taking over the world or anything. Of course Steven assumed that some people would try to do bad things with their powers but not those guys, that is if Jane even had powers.

"So you know them? What's so bad about them and why didn't you introduce me to others? Or even tell me for that fact?" He says with a tincey bit of anger in his voice. For years he had been wondering if he was the only freak with powers and now that he knew otherwise he wanted to meet as many of them as he could.

"It's not my place to introduce you to others, okay?" Claudine says a bit defensively as she shakes her head once more. "It's not my place to out people for being different, and I dont think you'd appreciate it if I went on telling others that "Oh-Em-Gee, I know this guy who vibrates.."

She pauses and unhooks her arm from his own and rubs at her temples a little. "Things are a lot more complicated than you seem to think. I'm not going to introduce you to others, cause we arent the X-Men."

Steven takes a step away from Claudine, apparently a little surprised and hurt, "All I'm saying is you could have explained things a little better. I'm sure before you knew there were others you were freaked out by your powers too and wished there was someone who could help you through understanding them." His voice rising a bit

"I figured that /you/ would show me a little compassion and help me out. I took a big leap showing you what I could do. I trusted you…and that was all I was asking for in return." He crosses his arms and stares her in the eye defensively.

"And you were right to trust me, I havent told anyone about your powers.." Claudine says matter of factly, as she's all about secrecy now considering what she knows. "There are a LOT of bad people out there, and Peter and Jane are some of them, no matter how cool you think they are.." she says firmly and resolutely. There's definitely something she's leaving out.

She has kept his secret so far…and she was more experienced with this whole people with weird powers thing…and it wasn't like Steven even knew Peter or Jane all that well…perhaps he should have had a little more trust in her. Steven breathes deeply, letting out all of his built up frustration.

"Maybe you're right…Ok, I won't associate with the evil villans…but could you please introduce me to the Justice League? I heard that Superman was a cool guy…" That smile crosses his face again as he extends his elbow once more.

"There is no good and evil. It's all a matter of perspective, and from what I've seen, there arent a good crowd to associate with. That doesnt mean they're evil, it's just that they'll get you into a lot of trouble.." Claudine says matter of factly as she sighs and shakes her head once more, letting out a soft little oye.

"Well, maybe we can start our own little group." he replies with a grin, trying to break the obvious tension between them. Steven was never very good at the serious talks.

"What should we be called?" He ponders a bit before screaming into the night comically, "Un-hand that damsel you dastardly fiend or else answer to…ROCK AND RUMBLE!" He motions to himself and Claudine before assuming a superhero pose.

"No, you're not going to be like that idiot Omega Man.." Claudine says firmly and resolutely as she rolls her eyes once more, as she lets out a soft little oye before hooking her arm with his own once more. "I swear, if I suddenly hear about a vigilante with vibratory powers, I'm going to hunt you down and smack you.."

"Hmm…I'm not exactly sure how I would stop a bullet with shakey hands but if you have any suggestions, feel free to tell me. Besides we're all not like you, creating mountains of stone or whatever it is you do." Steven replies slyly, beginning his walk again.

"Besides, I don't think you could handle being a vigilante from behind your microscope and "paper public relations"."He adds with a laugh.

"Omega Man is an immature idiot with delusions of grandeur.." Claudine says firmly and resolutely as she sighs and gives his arm a gentle little squeeze. She shows a little bit of disdain at the person as she lets out a soft little oye once more.

"I just think he was trying to do a little good. Besides he did save someone's life." Steven says trying to show some compassion for the guy. What's the point of having these powers if you can't do anything with them. What's that saying? With a lot of power comes a lot of responsibility? Or something like that.

"He's an idiot trying to show off. He's dangerous and he's either going to get himself hurt or someone else hurt.." Claudine says once more as she doesnt seem to have much sympathy for people who take the law into their own hands. "Besides, I know who he is.." she admits in the end.

Geez, she sure does know a lot of people. A lot of special people, who she apparently doesn't like. "Why does it seem that you really don't like any of these people with powers." A mock frown crosses his face.

"I'm wondering when you're gonna start hating me?" He asks jokingly, well almost jokingly, he really wants to know why she hates these people and when is it his turn.

"When you become an idiot and get a completely retarded view of the world, I'll start hating yuo.." she says completely deadpan while shrugging her shoulders. There's a reason why she doesnt like them, but she's not exactly at liberty to say at the moment.

Steven laughs out loud. Typical Claudine answer. What more could he expect? An actual answer?

"So, until I become an idiot and/or get a completely retarded view of the world, how do you feel about me?" He asks as innocently as possible, although there is a certain slyness in his voice.

"You're a nice guy, kinda stupid though for thinking that you should go out and meet all these people with powers.." she says softly as she's learned the hard way the trouble about sharing too much. "But, other than that, you're okay.." she says, giving the most noncommital answer possible.

"Hrrmm," Yes, those good ole answers that aren't really answers that people can get away with because they're attractive. He doesn't know what to make of this girl, but until he decides Steven decides to enjoy the ride! So to speak!

"I'll take that. So how about we hit up a little sandwich shop. I'm kind of hungry and I promise not to keep you out too late, but if I do we can always have another sleep over." He chuckles softly.
