Nine Months Ago…
"The Dynamic Duo Become the Fantastic Four?"
Micah's Room - Niagara Falls
With his parents having just left the room, Micah is celebrating his victory (albeit somewhat prematurely) by searching the internet for superhero costume ideas. Now that his parents know, the all-black ensemble seems somewhat unimportant. Although, he's still dressed in his all black outfit (long sleeved black shirt, and black plants) minus the mask. He sits at his desk, head tilted, unsure of what their superhero names should be. At this moment his expression is something akin to a kid in a candy store. Hopefully his hopes and dreams aren't crushed in the near-future. He shivers slightly, but keeps working, forgetting entirely that the window is still open on this crisp day.
In the last few months, there's been three main activities that Cam's been involved with. Crimefighting with Micah, school, and hockey. Cam is just returning from his last hockey practice of the year, (with just one more game this weekend), and as usual he makes his way to Micah's room shortly after Niki and D.L. disappear into another for their discussion. "Hey… what's going on?" Then he glances towards the window. "Isn't that a bit cold for you?" He, of course, is perfectly comfortable.
Excitedly at the voice of his foster, brother, Micah turns in his chair and leaps to his feet. Wide-eyed he explains as he steps towards Cam, "Ohmygosh, Cam, I seriously thought I was dead meat!!!" He points to his clothes, the police scanner, and then the mask which is still on the floor from when he'd removed it with D.L. around. "Dad caught me. And then MOM caught me. And then I had to explain everything. And I mean everything, but I left you out of it because well I didn't think it was important for you to get in trouble too — I thought one or both of them were going to kill me…." He's still wide-eyed and shivering, having forgot the comment about the cold.
Cam blinks, eyes going a little wide as well, "Oh, man." He smiles some as Micah says he didn't mention him, "Thanks." Then, "Well, you're alive, so it couldn't have gone *too* bad. What happened? What did they say?" Seeing the shiver, he quickly steps to close the window, before sitting back down and looking back to Micah expectantly.
Still wide-eyed, Micah continues to relay his story, "Well, they said they were worried and it was dangerous and stuff, but I argued that this is who I am. And I can't run from who I am. And then they said they were upset that I did it behind their back, and I reminded them of how much they've done behind my back… it was intense." He runs a hand through his curls, just making them fuzzier before he shakes his head. "And then… dad agreed with me. Seriously. He thinks we should be doing it as a family!! SERIOUSLY! How awesome is that?! Think of all of the people we can help!" And then he adds as a sort of afterthought, "Mom and him are discussing it now…"
Cam blinks, and says softly, "Wow. So glad I wasn't here then. I wouldn't have had a clue what to say." Then he grins and sits back as he says, "But great! It'll be so much better, not keeping it a secret all the time! And we were gonna need help anyway. Ice-cuffing won't work as good in the summer as it did in the winter."
"Yeah! Exactly! And if Mom gets in on it, we won't have worry like all because she's super strong. Remember how she threatened those bullies?! Wow! This is gonna be so awesome! I'm so pumped! So I'm trying to figure out better superhero clothes now. It's so hard to decide on!! There are so many options! Unless you think we should stay with the all-black thing? It works, it's kind of boring is all if we're all going to be wearing it… this is going to be so awesome!!" Micah is very excited. This much is true. He swallows before he finally asks, "How was hockey? Good? Gonna cream the team on the weekend?"
Cam nods quickly and grins, "Yeah! That'll be great." He considers, and then says, "Yeah, we should stick with dark colours, but come up with something cooler if the whole family's doing it. But, dunno, will they want to wear cool costumes? They don't seem the colourful-costume types. More the Sam Fisher type stuff." Then he nods quickly with a smile again, "Yeah, it went great. Really starting to get the hang of aiming the puck, and we're doing a lot better on defence lately. We'll win, for sure!"
"Dark colours, got it," Micah nods with a broad grin. "Can you believe it?! I mean this is better than anything I hoped would happen! We'll be able to help people and be the heroes we're meant to be! I'm so… excited! Oh man, I thought… I didn't think Dad would be on board after how Mom had been so adamantly against the plan in January. Just shows…" he shrugs. "That's awesome about hockey! Too bad it's ending though. Anyways, I know you'll do great." He grins.
Cam grins at that and says, "I thought he might be, he's cool like that. Niki would be too, I bet, if she wasn't worried about you." He sits back a little again as he thinks, and says, "We'll have to show them we're careful, though. So they don't freak out about us when it gets going."
"We are careful!" Micah agrees while beaming. "I mean we haven't ever gotten hurt doing this. And we're really good at it! Seriously! We've responded to what… more than thirty… or wait… how many is now? We've responded to a lot. And we've never gotten hurt or have been identified! Seriously, we are awesome at this!" He nods a little, "We'll stay careful though, especially with them around." He hmmms a bit before he excitedly points to his computer, "So, I've figured out how to tap into satellite systems now. Did I tell you that? It's AMAZING! I can track anyone through their cellphone these days and make my own signal untraceable. Not that I'll ever need to do that… but it's neat to know I can." He grins.
Cam nods emphatically in agreement, "Yeah, but we'll have to show them. Especially the first few times. Show them we know what we're doing so they won't worry too much." Then he blinks, and grins, sitting right up as he glances to the computer, "Wow, really? Can you bring up satellite pictures too? Like on 24?"
"Yeah!! It's amazing… gimme a sec," Micah sits down at his desk chair and closes his eyes before taking a deep breath. He places a hand on the laptop and brings up the satellite picture of Monica's house in New Orleans before his lips curl upwards into a smile. "Awesome, eh? I'm getting better, I think. One day, I'll just live inside a computer maybe," at this he chuckles. It's impossible. He shakes his head and then grins again.
Cam shakes his head quickly, "No way. You won't ever do that, because you'd be leaving me out here all alone." He grins again then and says, "But that's so awesome. We could really use that. Whenever there's a crime somewhere, you could check for satellite image to try to get an idea of the area before we go in."
"Woah! That's an awesome idea! I was just using it to figure out what else I could do with my ability! I'm practicing a lot. Pretty much whenever I'm alone these days," Micah shrugs. "Honest, we need to fight crimes and to do that, heroes train, right? I mean where would any of them be without a bit of training to build their skills? So that's what I'm doing. I'm training so that when we go after the baddies, I'm prepared!"
Cam grins and nods quickly, "Oh yeah. I've been practicing too.. well, when I've been outside. I can't get rid of ice like I make it, so anything I make ends up melting somewhere." He looks a bit sheepish again at this as he stands up, and says, "But I'm getting way better than I used to be."
"That's great, Cam! I know we'll be incredible superheroes… hey! How about we do something nice for mom… I think she was making waffles for supper, and who knows how long her and dad will be talking — let's go make them for her?" Micah's lopsided grin is punctuated by a shoulder shrug. "Maybe she'd like that and be more into the hero thing?"
Cam nods quickly again at that suggestion, smiling, "Yeah, that'd be great. Um.. yeah, waffles aren't too complicated, that should be easy." He grins and says, "Soon as I change out of this hockey stuff, starting to get kinda hot inside."
