"What We Came For"

A Quiet Road — New York

On the outskirts of the city, there is a rather unbusy road which runs next to a semi-forested area. The area is semi-forested in that there are plenty of trees and scrub and little creatures and flowers in the springtime and deer and… Well. Some of the residents close by have reported seeing a bear.

Dee crouches by her road, the arm around said bear - a wild bear - which she's been chatting with for some time now. Mostly about the wonders of hibernation, from which the bear has recently awakened, but partially about this plan that's supposed to bag them a shipment of… Dee's not sure. Thanks to Micah, though, they're intercepting something.

The bear bumps her shoulder with its nose, its prehensile lips wrapping around her sweater. She gives it a playful swat, and the bear counters by grabbing a mouthful of her hair. "Morning breath," she says, gagging. "You sure they're coming down this way, Micah?" Dee looks up and down the road for a truck or a van or something, but all she's seen are cars, and those are few and far between.

A meerkat and monkey were one thing, but a bear? That's enough to make Micah at least a little uneasy. His nervous edge, is fortunately kept semi-at-bay while he closes his eyes and watches the satellite image of the road from above with the aid of his smartphone. For a moment his thoughts turn to Cam, the giver of the phone, and his cheeks flush before he refocuses. Cam. Molly. Monica. With a nod he remembers this is for them.

"I'm positive they're coming this way," he says as he reopens his eyes. "In fact, they'll be here soon…" he turns to the bear and issues it a nervous kind of grin, "Um. Are — are you ready?"

This is a wild bear, and as such, he's not used to being around people. When Micah speaks to him, the bear's answer is a defensive 'HRROOAR!' before Daphne gives him a pat between the shoulderblades and calms him down. "He's ready. Don't worry so much. He says he can smell your fear." And, he's asking if it's okay to nom on Micah a bit, because only prey animals or defeated rivals smell like fear. Dee isn't going to say that, though. "Don't worry about the bear. He'll do his job."

Another car passes. A few minutes later, there's another. Finally, a white van with 'CARSON'S CLEANERS' printed on the side comes over the crest of the hill. It's not an unmarked delivery truck, but the friendly logo on the side makes it much less conspicuous. Perfect for transporting highly illegal cargo. This is the one they're waiting for, but Dee wouldn't ever know that by looking at it. She turns to Micah and asks, "How much longer?"

Micah still isn't sure about the bear, but he's come to trust Dee so he nods a little. "I'm sorry, I've never… been near a live bear." His cheeks flush further, but then he refocuses his ability. Holding onto his phone, connects with the satellites. He'd watched old footage, saw all of the vehicles that went in and out of Governor's Island.

"It's the van, on the hill… Carson's Cleaners… we need to act quickly — "

Quickly is something that Dee can do. "All right, buddy…"

She wants the bear to wander onto the road and give the van just enough time to stop before the collision. If the bear's hurt, she'll feel awful, but there are a lot of lives to save here, and… "Go. Go now," she says, both out loud and to the bear, so both of her companions can hear it. As the van closes in, the giant black bear meanders onto the road and stands up on his hind legs, roaring. Not as intimidating as a grizzly, but that doesn't much matter to the frightened driver, who stomps on his brakes and stops a mere foot from colliding with the bear.

"Okay, Micah," Dee says as the bear puts its huge paws on the van's hood. "Your turn."

Micah's eyes widen as the bear stands in the way of the truck. He also cringes as the truck stops right in front of the bear. "Right," he nods at Dee.

Taking a deep breath, he steps out from his hiding space and darts up to the van, staying low so as not to be spotted. All he needs is to be shot up with the Solution. He closes his eyes and touches the side of the van. It's disabled — not going anywhere.

He crawls along the side of the van, moving slowly to the back — to where the cargo lays.

The driver is preoccupied with the bear, so he's really not looking at much else. He's already got his cell phone out to call the police, and by some huge stroke of luck, Dee's actually able to open the door and grab him by the shirt collar before he even realises she's there. It's way too easy…

Then, there's a taser cartridge pressed against her shoulder, and before she can even react, it's discharged. Dee literally has no idea what just hit her as she tumbles from the van, landing on her back on the ground where she twitches from the discharge of electrical current.

Bear doesn't like that much. With the door open, he charges the guy, who fires the second cartridge. It does absolutely nothing to stop the bear.

"What the hell's goin' on??!" a voice states from inside the van's cargo area. The door opens, and a fully-geared military-looking woman steps out, rifle in hand, her eyes instantly focusing on Micah. She's only distracted for a second by the fact that he's a kid, but he'll soon have a weapon pointed right at his heart.

The driver kicks at the bear, who soon has his teeth around the man's ankle while trying to start the van up again. "It won't start! I dunno what's wrong! It won't go!'

Even if the driver had managed to dial the phone, it wouldn't have worked. Cell phone receivers aren't working here — it's a dead zone, even if there's normally no issues. Micah blinks up at the military geared woman. He doesn't have long to react. Using a taser of his own that he'd built, he levels it at the woman and discharges it before rolling underneath the van.

Once he's on under it he slinks underneath it towards Dee. "Dee!" he calls. Yeah, he's giving away his position, but what choice does he have. He rolls out the other side up towards Dee's body. "D-Dee!" He's up at her side in an instant. Reaching for his taser, he flinches, getting her out of here won't be easy. He turns to the bear, knowing it probably won't understand a thing he says, "I… I need to get her out of here… it won't be long till they look for the van…"

The woman with the rifle is, needless to say, very surprised by the fact that a kid has a taser, and she goes down like a brick, hitting her head on the back bumper of the van. There's one down… But there's still the driver…

Dee's eyes narrow and focus. She pushes herself up on her elbows, one hand going to her bleeding shoulder, where the prongs dug in. "M'fine…" she says, and the bear goes from holding the guy to chomping down hard enough on his leg so that he screams. The sound of crunching bone can be heard quite clearly. "Not as delicate as I look," she adds, gesturing to the back of the van. C'mon, we came here for something, let's get it."

Dee tries to climb to her feet, but the ground seems to keep slipping out from under her. "Go. Go. Just get as much as you can carry. I'll take care of the rest."

In the back of the van are two plastic crates, in which are hundreds of vials of some sort of solution. They're tied to the floor with bungee cords, but the tops are fairly easy to lift off.

The woman with the rifle groans as she rubs the back of her head. Anyone get the license plate number of that truck? (haha!)

Quickly, Micah nods, "Right. The mission." He refocuses as he darts to the back of the van, clambering into it as quickly as he can. He tugs at the bungee cords, releasing one of the crates from van. He smirks as picks it up carefully, he needs to be careful; it wouldn't do if the vials all shattered. With a heavy sigh, he trudges to the edge of the van and hops out the back.

By the time Micah's out of the van, Dee's managed to stagger to her feet.
The bear's also let go of the van's driver, who is now missing a foot. That should keep him from doing anything else for a little while.

There's a car coming. Dee looks at Micah. "Go, back into the forest!" she says. With no time left to grab anymore of the cargo, she asks the bear just one last favour as she, too, makes her way into the trees.

Without hesitation, the bear enters the back of the van, rips through the plastic crate, and destroys almost everything that's left. Unfortunately, some of the vials are left unbroken… But that's just a problem they'll have to live with.

Get far away from here, Dee tells the bear. Many days. Just go. Don't stop for anything. She knows that a bear who attacks people is a dead bear. If he's out of the area, he at least has a chance…

The oncoming car stops in the road when it sees what's happened to the van - just in time to provide witness that this entire heist was perpetrated by… a bear. The animals leaves the back of the van and flees into the forest.

Micah follows instructions well, carrying the crate, he disappears into the safety of the forest brush. "I couldn't take more… I - I'm sorry," he says before disappearing amongst the trees. All things considered, he has a lot. His cheeks redden as he catches his breath from that last bit of excitement. It seems the duo has what they came for.

"We need to get this someplace safe — " He arches his eyebrows. The pair are well protected under the treetops. Flushing further he says quickly, "There was another crate — "

"…Taken care of," Dee says, reaching for her shoulder again. The shock from the Taser is wearing off now, but those metal prongs were pretty painful. "No one's gonna be using the rest, that's for sure. C'mon." She pats his shoulder as she heads farther into the forested area. It's not big, so they'll have to hurry. "We can pro'ly get a cab, tell 'em I fell in the forest, have 'em drive us ter th'ospital." Hurt, it's hard to concentrate on making her accent more intelligible. Hopefully, Micah got all that. "Good job there. We got wha' we came fer."
