"Fate Line"

Common Grounds

New York City

In the old café that everyone knows and loves, sits a young woman. She grabbed a table with a window view. Her eyes looking out towards the street, she stirs what smells to be.. yes tea. Wearing a pair of dark denim jeans and a pair of high heeled boots the jeans are tucked into. A dark purple long sleeve shirt is also worn and her brown leather jacket placed on the back of the chair.

This is the Kitty that everyone knows, the laid back queen. Yes that's right QUEEN. Running a hand through her hair, she smiles softly and takes a sip of her drink.

Outside, there's a chill; most people might complain about it, but not the next person to step into Common Grounds. Desiree has a warm smile on her face as wide eyes take in the cozy corners of the cafe, the bits and pieces of decor that have changed but still remain familiar and friendly. Warm. She pulls the large collar of her long, grey coat close together as she banishes the last of her chills, looking for another familiar presence in the coffee shop: Kitty. Her gaze is watchful, after that; wary. The coat is the only drab thing about the woman — a silk scarf, purple with a blue blossom print, is wrapped around her neck, and large, gold earrings in the shape of leaves dangle from her ears just behind tightly-bound curls of wild hair. Tall brown boots take her to Kitty's table. "Well hi, Kitten," she drawls, unbuttoning her coat — underneath is a blaze of orange, a dress. "I hope everythin's alright. Been hearin'… things."

"Dezi!" Kitty says at the sight of the woman and she hops up to give her a hug, "I love the dress." she compliments Desiree and winks at the mom. The mention of hearing things makes Kitty's expression change, she's been under some stress lately.

"I've been hearing things too! Like the other day, I tried to prove to this woman that my ability was real, but instead of 'seeing', I only heard stuff!" Kitty says animatedly, though she doesn't speak too loud. This is always how she is with Desiree, very animated that is.

"But yes, you and Portia need to be careful. The government isn't playing around with us, they mean business."

Desiree wraps the much younger woman in a warm embrace, tugging the ends of Kitty's pretty hair after she does so, like she might for family; she's just naturally affectionate and has no qualms about it. Thin brows raise at the announcement of the new phase of Kitty's ability, and she blinks vacantly a few times. "Hunh. Well 'how 'bout that." Her smile, so full of warmth, starts to reluctantly fade. Serious topic and all. Her voice drops a few decibels and takes on a whispery rasp. Coming from Desiree, it's almost theatrical, even though it's entirely unintentional. "Yeah… that's what I've been hearin'. I ain't seen nothin' yet, but 'Lena's been…" she trails away and flops down across from the seat Kitty had claimed. "…I worry about her, y'know — she's gettin' too close to things she could get in real trouble for and— well, I mean, Ramon's gonna get away from D.C. with the other kids…"

"Ellie's not the type to stand around though, we know that." Kit says and then looks down at her tea. "I'm more involved in it then I thought I would be as well." The young takes a sip and offers Dezi some. "It's goooddd." She says and wiggles the mug back and forth.

"Ya know, they are too organized. I've warned Portia as well, but I'm worried about her, if something happened to her.." Kitty would blow the world up, to save her. Then she calms down, "We can't seem to find out how they are finding us though."

If Kitty would blow the world up looking for Portia, Desiree would blow it up three more times. She swipes the cup with a quick, distracted, sideways grin. The sip of tea brings her back to focus. "Mmm. I dunno… where there's a will, there's a way. Sounds like they got the will." She hands the tea back and fusses with the end of her scarf, twisting and fumbling it between her fingers — long wine-painted nails poking at the thin fabric. Dezi on edge means fussing and fidgeting — she sits with her knees pinched together and long legs splayed at awkward angles however they happen to be. "I gotta talk Ramon off the warpath," she admits. "What 'Lena's sayin' — sounds like … we should hide. An' it don't sound like a bad idea." And yet there's a reluctance to her voice.

"But Dezi.." Kitty says and looks at her mentor of sorts, "We can't just hide and let them run us over. They can't take all of us, not if we stand together!" The young woman looks so passionate about this. "Ever since I've known about the existence of others like us, I've always felt like we were separated, all alone. Never binding together until it's almost too late." Kit's eyes are wide and blazing in warmth.

"It's our destiny to stand together, we can't stand alone anymore. This proves it." Speaking from her heart as she tells Desiree how she feels. "They want us scared and running, and afraid." Kit shakes her head and tips her chin up. "We shouldn't give them the satisfaction."

Desiree's eyes pin Kitty, wide and keen. She matches the warmth in the young woman's eyes, the conviction, but her lips thin and turn down in an unsure frown. "That's the truth, Kitten. It is." The legs of her chair screech slightly across the floor as she pulls it in closer to the table. "Everyone might be all scattered, but we're connected, every one of us. S'what brought me here in the first place, to New York, what made me stay. Mmm, but I dunno, sugar — if they're— " She leans ahead, making her tall frame short and ungainly as she peeks up at Kitty. Her voice lowers even more to conspiratorial levels. "If they're comin' after kids? After people ain't capable of standin' up for 'emselves? Well— I dunno. I dunno what I'm sayin', I'm jus' sayin' … I got family. I can't put 'em at anymore risk than they already are by … existin'."

Kit's brown eyes gaze into Dezi's eyes. "I understand that, no we have to be smart about it. The children have to be kept safe. I have two siblings now that I know have abilities and they are both kids." Kitty admits and she puts her head in her hands, "I worry so much, what if I send Fox to school and she's nabbed there, but if I keep her home. They may get to her. And now I have Robin to worry about and I'm not even sure he's my brother! But I'm almost positive he is."

The young woman looks at Desiree. "Our families come first, we don't want them hurt because we're playing hero." Kit's expression is a somber one. "Why us though? Why choose to get us now? We were doing fine, the Company was making progress."

Empathy in her eyes, Desiree bobs her head in a nod at Kitty. Soon, she interrupts the attempts (key word: attempts) at whispering quietly with a scoffing noise that sounds roughly like "pfgggrhht". She tosses her head with a wild sway of dark curls and gold leaf earrings. "Fate," the woman spits out with a shrug — not that she has anything against fate, being a psychic means she has a number of rambling stories about fate under her belt, but fate isn't often fair. "Destiny. We know more'n most that crap happens. Point is, it already has. So we gotta make the best of it. I ain't been seein' anythin' has to do with the government— " she says the word as if it's an awfully silly word indeed. "Or feds or guys runnin' around in black suits, so I dunno what the best is! I dunno where the good road is. For once, I ain't the one goin' 'round sayin' the sky's about to fall. Maybe I'm gettin' rusty in my old age." Dezi skims over Kitty with her eyes, considering, before she reaches out with both hands, palms down, meaning for Kitty to take them.

"What have you been seeing?" she asks with a tilt of her head. "Pssh, Dez, you could be fifty and still look twenty." She winks and when Dezi offers her hands, Kit takes them and smiles. "I'm sure there is a reason, why you haven't seen anything to do with this."

Desiree smiles modestly, a silly expression paired with a roll of her eyes and laugh. "Oh pffff." She clamps onto Kitty's hands with her secure, warm grasp. "Things I can really … make a difference at. Truth is, I've been tryin' for along time not to… to not see the big picture…" At first, the older woman taking Kitty's hands is just a comforting gesture — of being connected, bound together, like they said. Slowly, though, Dezi turns Kitty's hands over in hers and draws them closer. She looks down at them, stares, studies the criss-crossing lines and folds and all the intricate designs in Kitty's palms. Focused, her eyes faraway, she traces a line that runs up the middle of the woman's palm.

Watching Dezi as the woman takes her hand and studies it. Kitty leans in slightly, "What do you see?" she whispers, eyes focused on the older precog. Kit relaxes and closes her eyes, head tilted to the side and mouth shut tight. She doesn't really know what she is doing.. but it just seems like the right thing to do.

The connection.. the feeling of their being connected is there. Like a warm blanket over you when it's cold during winter time, comforting and reassuring.

There's something profound about literally seeing the futurein the hands of someone whose very hands are the gateway to … seeing the future. It might be this that brings a fleeting smile to Desiree's face as she keeps her head bent down, focused on the psychometer's palm. Her mess of long hair falls forward, brushing the table. She traces the line back and forth a few times before looking up slowly. "Train tracks." Again, the line is traced. The line does resemble train tracks, even to the naked eye. If you use your imagination. "Here."

"I see it." Kitty says and her eyes open, the whites taking over to give her that eerie gaze. Her eyes widen, though she is experiencing a vision, the effect of this experience all together.. has her in shock. "The train tracks.." she says softly as Dezi studies her palm.

Dezi smiles and looks up from the "train tracks". Rather than be alarmed at the strange white-eyed gaze of Kitty, she tips her head to one side in quiet wonder. By their powers combined… "I don't know what it means," she readily admits softly, louder in the next moment:. "But I used to have an old palm-reading book!" Announcing this with eager wide eyes, nodding oh-so-seriously, she tap-tap-taps Kitty's palm with her fingers. "I'd ask if you were plannin' a trip, but this ain't the travel line. It's the fate line. Or… is that the fate line and this is the sex line…" The woman's brow furrows in consternation and she squints closely at Kitty's hand. "No! Is' definitely the fate line."

Blinking, Kitty's eyes return to normal and she smiles at Desiree and her antics. "The fate line.. I would hope my sex line didn't involve train tracks." She says with a chuckle and she looks down at her palm. "The fate line.." she repeats. What just occurred between the two doesn't even need to be explained or, Kitty just doesn't really care to try and delve into the mystery of it, content to just let it be.

After a squeeze, Desiree lets Kitty's hands go and plants her own flat on the table. She doesn't try to explain what they both saw. The images she sees never come with instructions. She gives a thoughtful look around Common Grounds; people walk past and wait in line, going about their business clueless to the fact that two of the patrons by the window can see the future. "You'll lemme know. When you figure out what it means, you'll gimme call, right?"

"Of course I will, you'll be the first person I call." She says and grins at Dezi, folding her hands in her lap. She looks around too, and then her gaze comes back to Desiree. "Us future seeing folk, have to stick together." Winking, Kitty thinks to the last time she hasn't felt like the weight of the world with the visions she sees is on her shoulders. With a blink of surprise, she realizes.. this is the first.
